I am trying to locate my James Murnane family in Tipperary, but have no idea if they were from the county or the city/town. James Murnane and his wife came to the US in 1847 and settled in Upstate, NY, Franklin Co. I am anxiously awaiting the resurgence of the Murnane website <murnane.org> after two years hiatus. All previous messages, prior to March of 2003, are still available online. Joseph R. Murnane 4219 Jersey Rd. Williamson, NY 14589 315-589-6631 JMurnane77@aol.com

I would like to find some information about my gr.gr.grandmother Marion HICKS. She married a TALBOT and lived in either Clonmell or Nenagh early in the 1800s. They had three daughters, Rebecca, Amelia and Cecilia, and perhaps some sons. When her husband died the children were placed in a home which I think was called the Ferry House. Was there such an institution? Are there any records of children in it? She married a second time to William CALWELL and move to Belfast. I would appreciate any relevant info.
I have Reilly's in Tipperary around the Clonoulty area in the early 1800s. Edmund and Mary....... Kaye www.bananatv.com/familytreechecklist.htm
I see that you have the English surname listed with Cahir. I have Catherine English b abt 1799 in Grange Co Tipperary between Cahir and Clonmel. Catherine is my ggg grandmother. Sponsors for some of her children were Ellen English, John English, Margaret English and Mary English. Possibly these sponsors were her siblings. Catherine married Michael Hally before 1816. Their first child was Ellen English baptized on 23 Oct 1816. I know nothing more about Catherine English and her family in Ireland. However, Catherine and Michael had 13 children and I have found baptismal records for 11 of them. The entire family emigrated to the US around 1849-1851 except one child, William Hally who remained in Ireland. The family eventually settled in Wisconsin, USA after living in NY for a time. Does this ring any bells? Tipperary lines I am researching: Mullany/Mullaney - South Clonmore & Ballymacadam Townlands & general Cahir area, Cahir (up to 1840s) O'Donnell - possibly South Clonmore Townland, Cahir, Co. Tipperary (up to 1840s) Hines / Power / Meagher / Kennedy - Co. Tipperary (locations unknown, 1825 - 1850) I'm finally heading to Ireland this summer to research these lines. Any good leads on interesting places to stay for a week or two in the Cahir, Co. Tipperary, area would be greatly appreciated, as well as anyone's favorite Cahir-area places to see. Hello Fay24: I'm afraid I can't help much with your Andrew CASWELL, but I am interested in that surname. My g.g.grandmother was a Mary Ann CASWELL (b. c 1804). My McCutchins lived approximately within the triangle bounded by Nenagh, Ballina, and Newport. In fact their church records more or less begin with the Newport area. Mary Ann married Robert F. McCutchin 20 Nov 1827. It seems likely that the CASWELLs and McCUTCHINs lived near one another. Although I have seen the name "Andrew CASWELL" in some records, I have never seen anything which connects Andrew and Mary Ann. Since both families appear to have been small in numbers, it seems logical that there might be a connection. Do you have anything that could fill in a blank? As I said in my posting a couple of days ago, I'm desperate enough to be open to conjecture and speculation. Thanks in advance for anything you can offer. Dear Mike, I guess you will have seen my posting and others with the name GLEESON/GLEASON in them. As you have not commented, I presume none of us seem to have any connection to yours? They seem to be very prolific families, but elusive. My interests in Tipperary are JOANNA CORRIGAN born 1821 in Cordangan, Southern Tipperary. Her father was PATRICK CORRIGAN, mother unknown. Joanna and her sister MARIA immigrated to Australia in 1841. Joanna married GEORGE BARCLAY in Yass, NSW in 1845, they had 7 children. Any information on the Corrigan family in Tipperary would be greatly appreciated. Thanks -- Lorraine Calvert Sydney, Australia rainbear.mail@gmail.com
Hi, I'm fairly new on this list. My gg grandfather John Griffin was born in Ireland and emmigrated first to Yorkshire then Lancashire in England. His employment record states that he was born in Tipperary, Tipperary. I guess this would be Tipperary town. He was born c 1822 to a Michael Griffin, farmer. His mother's name may be Helen or Helena. In Griffiths valuation there is a Michael Griffin in the Thurles area. I would very much appreciate help or pointers. Where would I start looking for records? Which parish? This would be my first try at Irish research since all my other families started in England. Thank you in advance. This seems like a very good group. Sincerely, Lynn Griffin

I found Tucker,Carter, Ryan listed in Otway leases 1806 also a Bulger,Joe listed in Griffiths @ Middleplough, Templederry. What year Tipperary Griffith's completed? We don't know if this person is related? In 1891 James travelled to Tipperary and I have a copy of his journal. He visited Castleotway and farms owned by James Mooney, John Wallace.John Oldfield, James Wallace, the Sholdice's,Tom Quinlan and George Mooney('Farm where my mother was raised").I found many of these family names also on Castleotway leases 1865. Travelled to ?Cashel "castle ruins on high hill" and on to Boresoleigh. Went to village of Drum to see Adam Carter and visited a "beautiful castle" and took the train to Dublin. He doesn't mention any Bulger in his travel. James and down the line spelled name as Bolger. This has gotten rather long. I would appreciate if anyone recognises any of this. We are hoping to travel to Ireland this year and could we duplicate these travels.
