Hi Christina, Yes, I see Grean parish just East of Doon parish in Co. Limerick. Thank you for pointing that out to me. I'm just wondering how Grean parish ended up being listed as part of Co. Tipperary in the 1766 Religious Census. Did the County boundaries change between 1766 and the time of the 1826 Tithe Applotment? Regards, Phil Buckley

Hi I have Mary Dwyer daughter of James Dwyer and Johanna Carroll who married Richard Liston 1859 - in Geelong Australia - they came from Derryfadda, Moyne Tipperary Julie
On the website http://www.rootsweb.com/~irltip/tipperary.htm, there is a compilation of the 1766 Religious Census containing surnames, whether Protestant or Papist, and Church of Ireland parish. The introduction states that the data was compiled by Mary Heaphy and Janet Crawford. In searching through this data for my BUCKLEY surnames, I find several listed in GREAN parish. This parish name has not survived. I need to know where in Co. Tipperary the C of I parish GREAN was located so I can pinpoint the location where these BUCKLEYs lived. Can anyone help me? Hi Michelle; We have a web page at WWW.STCOLUMBAN-IRISH.COM dedicated to the Irish that arrived in Montreal, Canada in the 1820's. There are a few Dwyer families in the records that might give you some lead in your research. We do have a search engine on our page that works quite well and can point the way to the Dwyer names in our documents. It would appear that the majority of these earliest residents in St. Columban, Quebec were from either Tipperary or Kilkenny. I have been directed repeatedly to Tipperary for my DWYER search. It was/is the part of Ireland where the DWYERs were to be from. Can anyone here give some assistance regarding the DWYERs from the early 1800s? Michelle
Someone asked me the question - For the nicknames: LETA, EFFIE, and NINA - what would their baptismal names be? Thanks for anticipated response. Heidi
Hello List, I have Kilmain, Tipperary, Ireland on a Queensland, Australia, Death Certificate of my great great grandmother Mary NAIL (aka O'BRIEN). The father of their daughter Ann was Patrick BRYAN, so Im not sure whether they were married or not. Incidentally, Mary's parents were William NAIL and Bridget DUNNE if anyone has connections. I have been told that there is no place of that name in Tipperary. Can someone help with any other info or suggestion as to where or to what "Kilmain, Tipperary, Ireland" might refer? Thanks in anticipation, Estelle _________________________________________________________________ Want 1c text 24/7? Hello Clayton. You may have already done this, but I thought I'd mention it anyway. Have you tried emailing the Society directly? Query with permission: Donal O'Collaugh O'Kelly ==================================== Greetings: I have been trying to find out any information on my Great-great-grandfather. His name was Michael McCormick and the info I have was that he was born on September 29, 1829 in Tipperary. He died on February 20, 1912 in Gore of Lochaber, Ottawa County, Quebec, Canada. He married a Barbara McKenzie who was born on January 28, 1826 in East Helmsdale, Lochaber Parish, Sutherland, Scotland. They married in Quebec, Canada around 1850. I would love to find out who my g.g.grandther's parents were so I may take my family tree even further back. Would you be able to assist me or at least point me in a direction where I could do the research myself? I have tried the IGI on the Latter Day Saints site, but to no avail. David at kennedy_mailing_lists@hotmail.com writes: << We would be most interested in maps of the Kingdoms and tuatha of the regions (pre1200 to 1600). >> Well, David.... I don't think you'll find much in the way of maps with boundaries of the various tribal lands. At least nearly all of those I've seen just "plop-down" a tribal name into an area on an outline map, where those people were presumed to live. There are many of such maps. The www.wesleyjohnson.com website has several of them. Here are a few books that might be of interest: Early Medieval Ireland, by Daibhi O Croinin (5 fadas missing <gr>), has a couple of maps. Early Christian Ireland, by T.M. Charles-Edwards has quite a few maps. A New History of Ireland, II - Medieval Ireland, edited by Art Cosgrove, has an interesting map of political divisions in Ireland in 1169. The Church and the Two Nations in Medieval Ireland, by J.A. Watt has an interesting map of the Diocesan structure of Ireland in the 13th century. A History of Medieval Ireland, by A.J. Otway-Ruthven, has a map of Grants in northern Munster in 1185. The Medieval Churches of County Offaly, by FitzPatrick and O'Brien, has an interesting map showing the "conjectured tribal boundaries". Atlas of the Irish Rural Landscape, editors Aalen, Whelan and Stout, doesn't seem to have specific maps for you, but it's a book that anyone interested in Irish history should have. It's an amazing book. I don't have any of my usual 500 or so Favorites available, as my regular computer...with over 8000 letters, also, has been in intensive care for the last two weeks. The first operation was a disaster, and the computer went from "operable, but slow" before the tech guy got to it, to completely inoperable and resembling humpty-dumpty after the fall. So I'm on a back-up computer, with absolutely zero long-term memory in it. I may have more books with a few maps here or there. If I come across any more, I'll let you know. .............................................................................. ... Hi , I would just like to thank everyone that responded to my E-mail concerning my grandfather. Jan in Canada
Jan, Michael O'Neill and Margaret Ryan were my great grandparents. Your grandfather Paddy Neill was my grandmother's brother - she was Johanna who later married Michael Keogh. Your grandfather also had brothers viz Owen, Ned, Simon and Mick. My grandmother was the only daughter. Margaret Ryan was a Ryan 'Simon' from the townland of Camus outside Cashel and the O'Neills came down from Ballykiveen in the parish of Sologhead. If you'd like to contact me off list I think I can answer a lot of your questions.
