I would like to research the surname of SHIELDS in Ireland, and plan a trip to Ireland. Perhaps someone can enlighten me as to places I should go. I am told that there were specific areas from which the different surnames can be found to have settled in Ireland. My ancestors were said to have been from Northern Ireland, and were said by my father to have been Orange Protestant...and yet they may have been gone to Ireland from Scotland.
