I am searching for the families of Patrick Mullane and his wife, Margaret Agnes Conlon. Both families are from Ireland. I believe they were from County Cork but it is possible that this may not be the county. The families came to America sometime in the early 1800's. Is there anyone out there that knows of these families? Thanks . Elaine Mullane
Hi everyone, I am new here and I know this is a shot in the dark but I am looking for any help on the surname THORNBURGH in Ireland. I recently found that my 3ggrandfather, Charles W. LITTLER married a Hester THORNBURGH in Baltimore, Baltimore County, Maryland on December 17, 1822. I know nothing more of Hester or the Thornburgh family. The following information is from the obituary of Robert M. Littler, son of Charles and Hester: "Col. Littler was born at Winchester, Va. He was of Irish descent, at least on his mother’s side, she having returned to Ireland during or after the war <this would be the American Civil War, 1861-1865> to take charge of an estate which descended to her, and having finally died there." I know that Thornburgh is usually an English surname but does anyone know of any Thornburghs in Ireland or where I could look for more information on them? Thank you in advance for any help on this. Searching for the surname CONWELL. According to the documentation I have acquired my GGGrandmother was Annie Conwell b. in Derrygowla (hope I spelled the town right) Ireland which I've been told is in County Mayo, the Civil Parish of Islandeady, Poor Law Union of Westport, Burrishoole Barony. Her father's name was Carnelius and according to the US Census, Annie came to the US in 1875 (don't know if her family came with her or not). CONWELL does not seem to be a common name in Ireland, has anyone else heard of this surname in connection with County Mayo? Pat
Dear List, A happy St Patricks Day to all list members, and to all of Irish descent, wherever you may be !! I am interested to hear from anyone researching any of the following names or derivations thereof: EGAR/EGARS EGER/EGERS EGGAR/EGGARS/EGGER/EGGERS EAGAR/EAGARS/EAGER/EAGERS My question is: are these names all derivations of the one surname (and if so, which is the right one ?), or are they all seperate surnames ? Are theses surnames distinctly Irish in origin, or are they names of people who migrated to Ireland from England and Europe ? I am researching the family of my g-g-g grandfather Paul CUDMORE EGGERS, who lived in Roscrea, Co. Tipperary c1825-1877. We think he was born in Limerick c1790, his parents being ARNOLD EGARS/EGGERS and Elizabeth CUDMORE. One theory is the Arnold EGGERS ancestors were Dutch, coming over with William of Orange, however, I also gather that the names EGAR/EGARS were at one time concentrated in Co. Kerry. To confuse the issue, I have seen the EGGERS name variously spelt as EGAR, EGARS, EGGAR, EGGARS. I would welcome input from anybody researching any of these names, but I would also greatly appreciate any information that my fellow list members may be able to provide. Thank you, Nick Batley Sydney, Australia ###################################################################### This e-mail message has been scanned and cleared by MailMarshal http://www.marshalsoftware.com ######################################################################

Hello, I'm trying to find information on my ancestor, Patrick Barber. He was born in 1720 in Cleghill, Co. Longford, Ireland. He came to Princeton, N.J. around 1749, and he was a Judge, and one of the founders of the First Presbyterian church, in Princeton. He was married to a Jane Fraser, and their children were as follows: Archibald Jane Joseph Samuel Margaret Francis John William Amelia, who I descend from Amelia was born in 1744 in Scots Quarters, Cleghill, Co. Longford, Ireland Patrick died in 1791, and is buried in Orange Co. New York. His father may have been a William Barber. Any information on this family, and also on Cleghill, Co. Longford, would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much, Becky Carden
I would like to research the surname of SHIELDS in Ireland, and plan a trip to Ireland. Perhaps someone can enlighten me as to places I should go. I am told that there were specific areas from which the different surnames can be found to have settled in Ireland. My ancestors were said to have been from Northern Ireland, and were said by my father to have been Orange Protestant...and yet they may have been gone to Ireland from Scotland. If you would like to see my family history/lineage of my SHIELDS family, please visit: http://home.att.net/~davehancock/SHIELDShis.html Can anyone give me any clues as to where I may find the areas of habitats for those bearing the name of SHIELDS? John James (or James John) Slowey (b. 1841) and Elizabeth Davidson (b. 22 June 1842/1847) are a set of my ggrandparents. Family history says that they were Irish, however their 1st two children were born in Glasgow. They were Elizabeth, b. 17 Feb 1866, and James, b. about 1868. The family emigrated to North America in 1869/1870. They are not found on the passenger lists of East Coast ports, so perhaps they entered N. America through Canada, although I've not found them there either. They are found in the city directory of Allegheny City (now North Pittsburgh) in 1870. Three more children were born there, Eleanor, Catharine, and Mary Josephine (my grandmother) In 1876 they moved to Pine Bluff, Arkansas. They are found there in the 1880 census. Perhaps somekind and knowledgeable person could advise me on another subject. I have found promising entries for both Jphn James and Elizabeth in the Index to Griffith's Valuation. The index gives Name, County, Parish, and Location. I also have references from the LDS FHC film library to filmstrips of the Griffith's Valuation for various Electoral Divisions. So now the question is: How do I match County, Parish, and Location with the correct Electoral District? Or is it that simple? What is Location. A geographical entity, I believe. An ecclesiastical parish, barony, or what? And what is an Electoral Division? All advice and suggestions gratefully received. Frank Gebhart
