    3. Margaret, To reply to a small part of your query, the information on wedding certificates from Ireland is as follows. (As given for two of my lot and pasted straight from my notes) ................. They married on 11th October 1873 in the Church of Ireland, Dernakesh Chapel. Parish of Drumgoon, County Cavan, Ireland. James gave his age as 25, that he was a bachelor and farmer and the son of Charles Lockington, Farmer. His residence was Drumerkillew, Parish of Killsherdeny. Mary Ann gave her age as 24, that she was a spinster, and the daughter of William Wright, Farmer. Her residence was Drumnagress in the Parish of Killsherdeny. These names would be of townlands, a group of which makes a parish. They were signed out by licenses, by Jno Moore. Witnesses were Henry Wright and Thomas Lockington. (Thomas was the younger brother of James. He was said to be born 18th March 1854 in Cootehill). There is a photo copy of the civil marriage record (No: 100 of 1873) in my records. It, in turn, is a copy of the register, which was hand written and hard to read. Place names were mis-spelt..................... Noel Mann (Also OZ) ps. Here is some info, kindly sent by a lady called Ellen. I hope she does not mind me passing it on, as it is such good advice and helped me greatly. N. Registration of non-Catholic marriages began in 1845 in Ireland. Registration of births, marriages and deaths, regardless of religion, began January 1, 1864. Parish records--primarily baptisms, marriages, and burials--provide the best source of vital record information in the centuries before civil registration. Certificates for births, marriages and deaths for all of Ireland until 1922 and for the Republic since 1922 are housed in Dublin. Belfast has the records for Northern Ireland from 1922 to present in addition to the all Ireland records from 1864-1922. Civil registration of births, deaths and marriages in Ireland names the townland that is the address in rural Ireland. If you search the Index and can identify your target, note the name, district, volume and page, necessary in order to obtain a photocopy of the full information given in that entry. Then, determine the appropriate FHLC microfilm number. You may then complete the "Request to Photocopy" following the instructions to the letter and mail it with a check for US$2.00. I don't know if they accept foreing checks. However, GRO in Dublin does. Foreign applications by mail: Fees are payable in Euro checks or bank drafts drawn on an Irish Bank, made payable to the Registrar General. Sterling checks, Postal Orders, US$ checks are accepted. Checks etc. for certificates should be made payable to the "Superintendent Registrar" The minimum amount for a check drawn on a non-Irish bank is ?12.70. I bundle my requests so that I meet the minimum fee. Births, Death and Roman Catholic marriages certificates are available from Office of the Registrar General Joyce House 11/13 Lombard Street East Dublin 2 Ireland Before 1864 you must use other sources to find/verify information, see http://www.rootsweb.com/~irlwat/instruct.htm Ellen ----- Original Message ----- From: "Margaret Fitzgerald" <margaretwf@austarnet.com.au> To: <IRL-ROSCOMMON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, April 17, 2002 2:35 PM Subject: [IRLRosc'mn] certificates > Would SKS please tell me where I can obtain marriage and birth certificates > for Roscommon, also the cost and what information is on them, in particular > if the marriage place is on birth certificates.
