    3. I am looking for information or family with the surname Timon. My ggg grandfather, John Timon, left Ireland in 1842 at the age of 14 with his uncle-James McGloin for USA. Mr. McGloin had been living in Matamoras, Mexico running a small business when the Mexican government offered him land in exchange for bringing over Irish Catholic immigrants. He did bring immigrants and they settled in San Patricio, now a part of Texas. John Timon's parents were Patrick Timon and Cecilia McGloin. I have different accounts as to where John was born-most likely Sligo, but other accounts say Roscommon or Cavan. I am going to Ireland this summer and would like to have some information before I go...maybe meet some cousins! John Timon had siblings that came over also, although I'm not sure if they came at the same time as he did. They are Elizabeth Timon, b. 1820 in Ireland. These other siblings are not "for sure" but good possiblities-Peter Timon and Hubert Timon. After John arrived in south Texas (then Mexico) he met and married Ellen Keating, b. 1832 while crossing the Atlantic. Her parents-Capt. John Beresford Keating and Mary Kickham were from Tipperary. -- An Irishman has an abiding sense of tragedy that sustains him through temporary periods of joy.
