    3. Hi Shirley and Listers: Re James JARRETT his wife Mary and the army in Roscommon I, too, have been reading the newspaper headings, with great interest, My 2xg-grandfather was in the army and stationed in Boyle, Roscommon in 1842 - 1846. While he was there he married a lady called Mary. Although I have his date of marriage, 24 January 1845, from his Army records, I have been unable to find the surname of his bride. I don't know if she was a local girl or the daughter of another soldier. I have checked his army records which I have in my possession and the Irish marriage indices. I have also looked at the fiche for marriages (1796-1955), for Gr Brit army officers, their families at stations abroad although I don't think Ireland was 'abroad'! Anyway, I have had no luck to date. My ancestor was stationed with the 38th of Foot, South Staffordshire Regiment. He was a Corporal and promoted to Sergeant while he was there. Like Shirley I would be most interested in any Roscommon army snippets.
