    2. Cathy Joynt Labath
    3. FYI-I am not related. Just researching The Irish in Iowa... Cathy Joynt Labath The Irish in Iowa http://www.rootsweb.com/~iarecrds/ Scott Co., Iowa USGenWeb Project http://www.rootsweb.com/~iascott/scott.htm Daily Times, Davenport, Scott, Iowa, September 19, 1896 KILLIAN A PIONEER GONE Mrs. Mary Irwin Killian Passes Away Last Night Born in Roscommon, Ireland, in 1807, She Attained the Age of Eighty-Nine Years-A Resident of Davenport Since 1842-A Beautiful Life-The Funeral Last evening at 8:30 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J.T. O'Meara, 212 west Sixth street, occurred the death of Mrs. Mary Irwin Killian of senility, in the eighty-ninth year of her age. Her demise is a shock to her host of friends in this city where she has lived for the past forty-two years. The advent of death was sudden although anticipated. The deceased, although a hearty and robust old lady, had for the past several weeks showed evidence of a rapid decline. She went recently to retire at an unusually early hour, complaining of feeling tired. Shortly after, eating supper last night the old lady retired to her room. Nothing caused alarm to her daughter over her early retiring since it had become a usual thing for Mrs. Killian to go to bed immediately after supper. Along about 8 o'clock one of the children said that she thought grandma was calling. Her daughter, Mrs. O'Meara, went into the hall to the foot of the stairs and heard a moan. Hurrying up the stairs she found her mother in a state of collapse. She lapsed into unconsciousness and passed away in about twenty minutes. A physician was summoned immediately and found on arriving that nothing could be done. He announced that her death was caused by senility and the rapid breaking down of the tissue attendant upon such great age. Mary Irwin Killian, relict of the late Daniel Killian, who passed away eleven years ago, was born in Roscommon county, Ireland on August 15, 1807. As a girl she was acquainted with the great minds then prominent in Irish affairs, and as an old lady was wont to tell of the early days of the century, its great men, the struggles of her race for national freedom and of the great days which followed the defeats of the last century. She was married to Daniel Killian in Ireland several years before starting for America. On her first arrival in the United States she settled at Providence, R.I., where she remained for three years. In 1842 she came to Davenport, where she has since resided. Since the death of her husband in 1885 she has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. J.T. O'Meara, at 212 west Sixth street, where she died. The deceased was the mother of five children, three of whom survive her-Mrs. William F Orendorff of Gilbert, Mrs. T.M. Flannigan of Williamsburg, Ia., and Mrs. J.T. O'Meara of this city. A score of grandchildren also survive. The funeral will probably be held Monday morning at 9 o'clock from the residence of her daughter, Mrs. J.T. O'Meara, 212 west Sixth street, with funeral services at St. Anthony's church and interment in St. Marguerite's cemetery. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Death record-(surname spelled differently) No. 8551-Recorded October 2, 1896 Killion, Mary, age 89y,1m,3d female, white, widow Died: September 18, 1896, 8:30 p.m. at 212 west Sixth st, Davenport, Iowa Cause of death: Heart disease Born: Ireland. 1. GRIMLEYs of Elphin
    2. Donald Stanley
    3. Hi everyone This is my first posting to this list, so I'll start by listing my interests in Co. Roscommon. We are researching the family of GRIMLEY (sometimes spelt GRIMSLEY or GRINDLEY) from Elphin in the early 1800s. Matthew GRIMLEY and his wife (probably Hanora, surname unknown) had at least 4 children - Bridget (born abt. 1818), Mary, Margaret and John. These four children emigrated (without their parents) to NSW Australia as free settlers in December 1841. Bridget and Mary both married convicts in 1842. Our direct line is through the family of Issac COLE and Mary GRIMLEY. If this rings a bell with anyone, please feel free to e-mail me. Kind regards Donald Stanley Hibiscus Coast New Zealand

    1. CORRs of Roscommon / Longford
    2. --------------- I am trying, without much success, to trace my grandparents & beyond, and would welcome any assistance or info from listers. My father was George,Joseph Corr born 1905 in Keadue, Roscommon. His father was George,Joseph, Earnest who married Teresa Daly on 27th Sept 1897 in Aghamore. My Grandmother Teresa died in 1906, and is buried in Knock cemetry, Co. Roscommon They had 4 children; Teresa, Noel (Nora ?), Jack or John & my father George, Joseph Corr. I have no idea what happened to my Grandfather George, but believe he had a number of siblings; - Phillip, John, Joseph and Nora; I do not know in which order they were born ? Phillip (abt 1866 - 1925) married Teresa Loughna (my grandmother Teresa Daly's Aunt) and lived in Edenpark, Knock. They had a son George Patrick (1895 - 1922) and daughters Kathleen & Teresa. George Patrick (1895 - 1922) married Margaret Bridget Kenny (1895-1925) about 1920 ? Another brother of Phillip & George, was John (1860-1913) who married (1909) Jane Waldron (1865 - ?) again in Aghamore, and they have a son John,George b 1912 - current, my cousin. I believe that these Corr brothers are related to Charles Corr & Bridget Masterson from Gortletteragh, Leitrim who raised their own Corr family in Corglas, Longford - although I cannot find any direct link/info between these Corr brothers. I believe my grandfather George,Joseph was born or came from Corglas, Co Longford. Charles & Bridget had c 10 children between their first born NORA (4th Dec 1891) and James b 13th March 1908. In between, they had a George Corr 17th Feb 1904 - Nov 1992, who married Mary Kate Jones in 1931, and they raised, so I believe, their own family in Corglas, Co Longford - again one of whom is a George who is now a priest. Another piece of unconfirmed information, is that Phillip, John and presumably my grandfather George, were all retired from the RIC, and/or British Army - having served / stationed in Bermuda or West Indies somewhere ? Finally, there is a story that the other two siblings, Joseph & Nora, ran off to America. All my Corr family seem to name their first born son George, and their first born daughter Teresa or Nora. I have come to a complete blank, and cannot find any record of my grandfather or his relations in Roscommon, Longford, Leitrim or Mayo, and would greatly appreciate any info or assistance anyone can give me !!! thanks, Niall, George CORR * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * This message is confidential. 1. FARRELL
    2. Fred & Judy Brauns
    3. Looking for information on 2 (possibly 3) brothers from county Roscommon by the name of Farrell. There is a Phillip Farrell, born between 1824 and 1834 (depending on which record you check) and a Lawrence Farrell, born between 1827 and 1831. Both of them have parents by the name of Michael Farrell and Sarah (last name unknown). There is also a Thomas Farrell, born between 1822 and 1825 who had the same father but his mother's name was Catherine Moore. It is possible that Catherine and Sarah are one and the same or that they are different mothers. I think there is a good possibility that there were other brothers by the names of John, Joseph, James, Edward and/or William because of the Irish naming pattern. Is there anyone out there with any info on this family?

    1. Re: John Timon
    2. Lacey
    3. I am looking for information or family with the surname Timon. My ggg grandfather, John Timon, left Ireland in 1842 at the age of 14 with his uncle-James McGloin for USA. Mr. McGloin had been living in Matamoras, Mexico running a small business when the Mexican government offered him land in exchange for bringing over Irish Catholic immigrants. He did bring immigrants and they settled in San Patricio, now a part of Texas. John Timon's parents were Patrick Timon and Cecilia McGloin. I have different accounts as to where John was born-most likely Sligo, but other accounts say Roscommon or Cavan. I am going to Ireland this summer and would like to have some information before I go...maybe meet some cousins! John Timon had siblings that came over also, although I'm not sure if they came at the same time as he did. They are Elizabeth Timon, b. 1820 in Ireland. These other siblings are not "for sure" but good possiblities-Peter Timon and Hubert Timon. After John arrived in south Texas (then Mexico) he met and married Ellen Keating, b. 1832 while crossing the Atlantic. Her parents-Capt. John Beresford Keating and Mary Kickham were from Tipperary. -- An Irishman has an abiding sense of tragedy that sustains him through temporary periods of joy.
