Dear All. Does anyone on the list have a connection with or a record of an O'NEILL family living in Clonfad around 1840/50? Regards Jan Yamba NSW Australia
Dear Listers, please accept my apologies, if I have already bored you with this info from other lists. I am currently researching my own family (CORR), and would of course greatly appreciate any help you can provide .... My Grandfather George Joseph CORR was born 1861 in Dromard, in the parish of Drumlish, Co Longford of George CORR - a farmer from Co. Leitrim He had several brothers Phillip (1859), John (1862) and Charles (1865) who married a Bridget Masterson of Leggah, Co Longford, and settled in Corglass, Co. Longford. There are also stories of a Joseph and a sister, Nora both of whom emigrated or absconded to America - New York, I guess. He married my grandmother Teresa DALY on the 27th September 1897 in the RC Chapel of Aughamore in the District of Kilkelly, Union of Swinford in the County of Mayo. Teresa was the daughter of John DALY and Bridget (Loughna, I believe), and was born in Keadue, Peyton (near the town of BOYLE) in Roscommon. I am not totally sure when she was born, I think either 1871 or 1878. She died 22nd June, 1906 and is buried in Knock Cemetery, Co Mayo. It is very difficult to actually make out her age on her gravestone, as it was damaged and has been repaired - but it looks like she was either 26 or 28 when she died. Her daughter, my aunt, Theresa Laydon nee CORR is buried at Kiltimagh Cemetery, interred by her uncle Bishop DALY. The other brothers also married, I believe, in this same church & parish; Phillip to a Theresa Loughna 9th Sept 1891, and his brother John to Jane Waldron in 1909. John & Jane Waldron made their home in Aghamore, whilst Phillip & Theresa lived in Edenpark, near Knock. My grandfather served his full 21 years in the British Army (Royal Artillery) and was discharged to pension in 1904, and went to live with his in-laws the DALYs in Keadue (Keadew), near Boyle in Co. Roscommon. What happened to both sets of my grandparents, the Corrs and the Dalys, I do not know. I would be most grateful, and relieved, if someone could shed some further light on this quest. many thanks Niall Corr * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * This message is confidential. Dear Listers, The Shamrock Tombstone Transcription Project is a new project that is being sponsored by The IrelandGenWeb Project (http://www.irelandgenweb.com). Below is information describing this project -- please feel free to visit the website (url below) and donate your tombstone information. This is a free project and your donation will help to make it a successful research tool for other irish researchers. Also, please feel free to pass this information on to any other email list you belong to -- if you feel that it is a worthwhile project. Thank you for your time! Best Wishes, Carol Hepburn IrelandGenWeb Coordinator http://www.irelandgenweb.com **************************************************************** The IrelandGenWeb Project is pleased to announce that the SHAMROCK Tombstone Transcription Project is now an official part of the IrelandGenWeb Project as a Special Project. Please see below for a description of the project. SHAMROCK Tombstone Transcription Project http://community.webtv.net/shamrockroots/tombstones IrelandGenWeb Project http://www.irelandgenweb.com <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> Often the tombstones of persons born in Ireland will list their birthplace in Ireland on the stone. This can often provide the needed clue to continue a family history study in Ireland. SHAMROCK listmembers began contributing tombstone transcriptions which they have found in their own research, either of their own family members or just of tombstones they have come across while doing their research. Originally, these were transcribed to a webpage, but we quickly realized this project had the possibility of growing very large, and so in May of 2001 arrangements were made to transfer this project to a board where persons could enter their own data, and which would be searchable. This also will help guarantee that the data will always be available to researchers. You do not have to be a SHAMROCK listmember to contribute to this project! What is this transcription project for? ------------------------------------------------ This project is for tombstones -not- located in Ireland which indicate a place of origin in Ireland. These may be in your family, or may be just tombstones you have come across while searching a cemetery for your own ancestors. Have you come across a tombstone which shows a place of origin in Ireland, whether it is your family or not? If you have, please consider listing it in this project..... it just may provide a needed clue to someone else. What is not acceptable in this project? --------------------------------------------------- It is -not- acceptable to take information already published in a copyrighted book or article and place this on the transcription board. Please obey copyright laws! Any transcription found to violate copyright will be removed from the board. Only tombstones not located in Ireland should be included. **This project is not for transcribing tombstones from cemeteries within Ireland itself, or for asking for lookups or information on cemeteries or for general queries. Please do not submit tombstone data which do not meet this criteria. Inappropriate postings will be removed from the board without notice. List Managers, Marlene, Joe, Clarke/Spilman/Ireland cousins, and OBIT members, Do not open any attachments, even if it says 'Take a look at the attachment' this is a ploy to get you to open it, then a message comes up the file is corrupt, but you have opened the door and a virus probably got thru. It has taken me all day to clean up the mess. (Look at the final line of this string of messages, you can see how the ploy message reads) The attachment (read message immediately below) was a virus I picked up via a surname/location board response. You are/may be/probably infected now. The virus(s) were named: W32/BadTrans@MM, BackDoor-NK.svr, DUNpaws.av, JS/Kak@M and JS/Kak.bat.a - I found info about how to remove by using google.com and putting in the name of the virus for a search. They seem to be entwined and removing one effects the most of the others. Run a scan with your virus detector and follow the instructions. My apologies to others who got caught just as I did. Apparently these virus(s) are designed to reproduce and go out through other messages in our email boxes. ----- Original Message ----- From: Marlene Weaber Leber <mwleber@dejazzd.com> To: kloverholt <kloverholt@msn.com> Sent: Thursday, July 05, 2001 5:45 PM Subject: Re: [OBITL] ME- Waterville- Kennebec Co. Dear Listers / Subscribers, I am currently researching my own family (CORR), and would of course greatly appreciate any helpful info .... My Grandfather George Joseph CORR was born in Corglass, Co Longford of George CORR - a farmer of Co. Longford. (Is he related to/ brother of Charles Corr and Bridget Masterson of Corglass, Co Longford ?) He married my grandmother Teresa DALY on the 27th September 1897 in the RC Chapel of Aughamore in the District of Kilkelly, Union of Swineford in the County of Mayo. Teresa was the daughter of John DALY and Bridget (Loughna, I believe), and was born in Keadue, Peyton (near the town of BOYLE) in Co. Roscommon. Her daughter, my aunt, Theresa Leyden nee CORR is buried at Kitimagh Cemetery, interred by her uncle Bishop DALY. It strikes me as odd that neither of my grandparents were actually married in their own parish; George - a sergeant major in the British Army was stationed at Ennis, Co Clare, and Teresa was from Keadue, Co Roscommon - where they returned to live and raise their family - my father and aunts. I have all these details from the copy of their marriage cerificate; Teresa's Aunt (Theresa Loughna) was a witness, and she was married to Phillip CORR - George's brother ? I do not have any other details, and would greatly appreciate another kick start in the right direction. I do not know what happened to my grandfather, after my grandmother's death. I do not know when he was born, or when or where he died. I hope to look up his details of Army Service at Kew Gardens soon, but if anyone has details of the CORRs from LONGFORD/MAYO/ROSCOMMON and/or the DALYs of ROSCOMMON (and New York) it would be greatly appreciated. many thanks Niall Corr * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * This message is confidential. Builders of the Hawkeye State >From "The Palimpsest; The Irish in Iowa", State Historical Society of Iowa, February 1964 ....John BRENNAN, who was born in Roscommon County in 1845, came to America in 1865, friendless and penniless. While working four years as a laborer, he studied law at night in Omaha. However, he became too deaf to plead cases before a jury. In 1869 he became a reporter for the Sioux City Daily Times. BRENNAN was an effective speaker, "especially when dealing with England's treatment of Ireland." He served as campaign orator with Blaine in 1884. Later he became associated with Patrick EGAN and John P FINNERTY in Irish meetings throughout the United States. BRENNAN wrote a pamphlet, "The Irish-American Citizen, His Rights and Duties in American Politics," in 1866. He claimed that the Democrats asked the Irish to battle for "personal liberty" which means "liberty of the saloon." "This saloon institution is the crowning curse of our race in this country," he wrote. He thought no respectable Irishman should be engaged in the liquor traffic. In his later years he gave much of his time to The Northwestern Catholic, published at Sioux City. BRENNAN died in Sioux City in 1900...
