Thanks for this. Yes the re-use of forenames and intermarriage certainly make for some untangling. You said "As far as the wife of Johann Christopher Schweitzer goes, Henry Z. > Jones in "The Palatine Families of Ireland" gives her name as Catherine > Elizabeth, but doesn't supply a surname. This is the first I've heard > that she might have been a Ruckle, but if so, her father was probably > Caspar." My ancestor was Jacob SWITZER and not Johanne Christopher Switzer and we think he may have married Margaret RUCKLE circa 1808. Their first son, my great great grandfather, Benjamin, was born in 1809 in Ireland. Thanks again for the lookup. Terry, I'm afraid I may have created some confusion on my own by trying to answer two messages with one of my own. The info on Johanne Christopher Switzer was a response to Pat Wheeler's message. The marriage of Jacob Switzer and Mary Ruckle (d/o Daniel) is listed on page 104 of Henry Z. Jones' book. He sites Walter Ruttle as the source for this information. Lacking absolute documentation from 1808, Walter Ruttle is as good a source as you could get. Though I have never had the privilege, I know others who have made the pilgrimage to Ireland, looking for their Ruckle/Ruckel/Ruttle roots and found Walter and his wife, Nan, living in the original Ruckle home in Ballingrane. Surely this Mary Ruckle must be your ancestor. I can't find any mention of a Margaret Ruckle who fits the appropriate place and time frame to have married your Jacob. By the way, I'm descended from Mary's brother, George of Adare.............Karen
