The Southwell Estate included three villages: Ballingrane, Court Matrix and Killiheen. Also, there was some kind of settlement by the Manor House, Castle Matrix. Today, only Ballingrane continues as sort of a village. My estimate would be that the estate was about 5 k across and wrapped around the north and west of Rathkeale. There are maps in People Make Places. I've been "lurking" for some time on this list in hopes that something might pop for my elusive ancesters. Do any of you have the above in your ancestry ? They got married in 1756 in Philadelphia at St. Micheal & Zion Lutheran Church. Their children married Ann Maria Sprenkle, Dorothea Sprenkle, William Jones, ? Moore, James H. DeBurst, Mary Ford, John Schreiner, and Abigail Maxwell or Maxfield. Jacob's occupation was brickmaker. He lived in Philadelphia and Lancaster or York County. His children moved to Kentucky and branches moved onto MO and LA, and MS. I don't know if Johan Jacob Pop/Bobb(b. 9/25/1725; d 9/3/1791) and his wife (m. 11/20./1759) Maria Elizabeth Muoock (Molach) (b. 2/3/1735; d 3/7/1823) were part of the Palentine immigration or not. Thanks Tina.
My SWITZERS didn't emmigrate from Ireland to Canada until 19th Century. Family lore has it that when the father died in Ireland he left an entailed estate called Castle Blainey. I wonder where or if this ties in with the Southwell estate. We have traced graves of members of the family in Limerick (I think ~ I was just a kid). Any ideas?
