    3. I'm intrigued - you say your ancestor Adam Cornelius was a "sod" stealer??? What WAS a "sod stealer"? Was this an issue about cutting turf or peat for a fire that some bureaucrat objected to?? I'm interested, because it must have been so important to find fuel to keep the home warm especially in those long wet Irish winters. It's amusing sometimes how language changes. My mother used to tell me "I was born in an Irish bog" when she wanted to impress on me that I should appreciate the comforts of modern life. (She WAS born in a farmhouse, but there was a lot of bog-land around Tuogh/Adare, so she meant it figuratively - I think!) In England the word "bog" has come to be slang for a lavatory/toilet - hence my amusement at her expression!. The farmhouse is still there, but it's had a modern bathroom, kitchen etc. for some time now. It's tempting to feel romantic about the healthy out-door life our forebears had - but it was hard work hauling buckets of water from the spring at the far end of the field. And I NEVER enjoyed visiting the privy at the end of the garden - even if I was only an occasional visitor to the farm. (Aussie slang for you are right) It was bog, but I said sod to make it nicer <g> "Exchequer Bill dated 27 June 1754 (no answer) Michael Considin, Daniel Brasil & Michael Magrath all of Ballywilliambeg in co Limerick Plts. V. Adam Dulmage, John Dulmage, Martin Switzor FitzMichael, Martin Switzor Fitz-Christopher, Charles --p, Nicholas Laurence, Adam Miller, Henry Louer, Nicholas Shior, Adam Fishell, Tobias Fishell, John Crips, Peter Modler, John Bowen, Jacob Tesky, Adam Cornelius, Christopher Youngman, Henry Sturk, Christn Sparlin, John Dulmage & Mathew Lagier Defts. Plts complain that they are leasehold tenants of the lands of Ballywilliambeg with its bog all held from Richard Maunsell of Limerick city on an unexpired lease. That on 20 May last the Defts armed with slanes spades and pitchforks entered on said bog and cut turf therein. That on 21 may last the Defts & 100 others also armed repeated the act. Plts claim the bog Plts ask for an injunction." There was nothing else about it. Cheers Jacqui Central Victoria, Australia. www.oldnewscopy.com "It's Old News!"
