Hi Norma There is only a short paragraph in Jones' book about the Balls. He says that "whether or not the Balls of Co. Limerick were of German ancestry is not yet firmly proven. There was, however, a 1709er family who settled in colonial America, descended from Johannes Ball and his wife Anna Catharina of 6719 Mauchenheim near Alzey, Germany [see my The Palatine Families of N.Y. Vol 1 pp. 14-16, for more on this interesting group] John Switzer of Dublin assigned a house to John Ball on 24 April 1784. A John Ball of Kilscannel parish md. Elizabeth Bovenhoizer of the same parish 3 Oct 1786; James Ball md. Margaret Shouldice of Killiheen 24 Nov 1790, and perhaps he was the same man as the James Ball, weaver of Killiheen, bur. 30 Nov 1800 (Rathkeale Chbk.)" That is all. Sorry, It was Brenda who was interested in Ball families. I merely indicated some of the books H. Jones had published on the Palatines. Thanks anyway, I'm sure Brenda will see it.
