    3. Hazel and List, I don't know who might have been left behind, but there are lists of those who made it as far as England or Ireland, didn't like what they found, and returned to Germany. Curiously, my husband's ancestors (surname Opgenorth) might have been among them. His aunt had written down their place of origin as "Falsdorf". We searched in the genealogy library at Salt Lake City and came up dry. Then our son who'd had a bit of High School German said, "Maybe it was spelled Pfalzdorf". Sure enough, there was such a town on the German/Dutch border and documents on record naming his great grandparents and other Opgenorths. A couple of years ago our son traveled to Germany and visited Pfalzdorf (translation - Palatine Town.) In the middle of the village stands a monument with a timeline entitled "Pfalzer Chronik" The first date is Mai 1741. Though I don't understand German, I can make out "Pfalzer emigranten", "Pennsylvanien", "Amerika", and a phrase that seems to indicate the War of Spanish Succession. It mentions Emigranten Adam Beeker und Michel Grossart. If anyone on the lists is fluent in German, I'd be happy to transcribe and send the text of this monument and perhaps we can add a chapter to the Palatine story......Karen Opgenorth
