    3. I found quite a bit more on the Detlor family as well, I will be adding it to that page when I get around to it. There are many books in the Library that give a lot of genealogy to these Irish palatines.. will have to go and get them out again and put them on the pages for all to see. Judy

    3. Hi Paul: My records, which are from the research of B. Wesley Switzer, show this couple to have 8 children, and there isn`t any mention of Julianna/Joanna. Perhaps, Mary Wallace could give a definitive coment. I`ve noticed her on the list in the last few dayss. 3. Okay, all you Switzer experts. I am stumped. I am following Johann Christopher Schweitzer/Katherine Elizabeth Ruckle's offspring. One source on Rootsweb has a Julianna/Joanna, one does not. I am also noting different numbers and names of offspring from different sources. Could someone with a definite resource shine some light on this problem? There is no sense continuing the line if I am assigning children to the incorrect parents. 3. Hello Mary, The surname EMPEY caught my eye in the bit about the historical sketch. Is there a reference to exactly which EMPEY this was? Was Catherine the d/o John EMPEY? Bob, I wholeheartedly agree with your comment about including sources, but I did want to say that your saying you were 65 and not interested in having more children gave me a wonderful chuckle. 3. Judy, May I suggest that, where possible, you show your information sources, at least for major inputs. Without this information, all your work might either be regarded as gospel or alternatively as pretty but of limited value. Experienced genealogists know that they should always get as close to the source as possible, but hasty viewers may be tempted to take things at face value. Knowing at least who supplied your material may give some level of comfort (or perhaps otherwise). 3. I would like to support Ken McDonald's request that we all make our sources as clear as possible. While it is, at times, good to be brief, the full information must be close at hand. In regard to the long fertility of our ancestors: My g-g-grandfather,Tobias Fizzell, b.1798, Court Matrix, had at least 4 children in Ireland before moving to Canada in the 1840s. He then remarried and had 12 more, the last, George, being born when Tobias was 68 years old. George's grandson, also George, is the same generation as my father, being my 2nd cousin once removed, but is about 15 years younger than I! Tobias' first son, William, was 41 years old and had five children by the time his last half brother was born. He was a grandfather soon after George's birth. (See records of the Church of Ireland, County Limerick, various Canadian and U.S. census data.) Bob Fizzell -- 65 years old and not interested in having any more children!

    3. that is what I have tried to do here, as much as possible, there is so much information that I have to shuffle thru it to make sense out of it, if you have seen my pages I do not put a lot of extra stuff in, just the main particulars. I have not even bitten into it very far. It is going to take some time to gleen the information of fathers/mothers and children, dates and the like. Not all of it is close to each other. thanks for the suggestion. Judy

    3. I was just thinking I was getting somewhere when I read this mail (ie last paragraph about Jacob Switzer and Mary Ruckle) because I have found a mention of the marriage of Jacob to Mary Ruckle in 1808 and my Great Great Grandfather Benjamin son of Jacob (the eldest of 10 boys) born in 1809. Now though it has been pointed out to me that if Jacob Switzer was born in 1756 he would have been 52 when he married and 53 when the first of 10 boys was born. Unlikely don't you think? It begins to look as if there were at least two Jacob Switzers and the younger of the two must have been the one to marry Mary Ruckle and went on to have ten boys. All we need to do now is find out who he is! According to my grandfather's book about his family when Jacob died in Ireland a messenger was sent to Benjamin in Canada to inform him that he had in herited the family estate said to consiste of a Castle Blainey and land adjoining. However this estate, like so many in the old country was 'entailed' and he advised the mesenger that he did not want it, so that it would then pass on to his next younger brother. I believe this would have been William Switzer who lived near Bolton, Ontario but he could also have refused it and it could have then gone to John, Joseph, Reuben, HArvey, Thomas, Bartholomew, Daniel or Christopher. Castle Blainey appears to be north of Dublin and not as far as I'm aware part of the Southwell estate. If Jacob Switzer in Mary's mail was second cousin once removed of Daniels then surely it is possible that he had a son, also called Jacob, who would have been second cousin to Daniel. If so then the relationship given in the 1925 picnic sketch would be correct and this Jacob would have been great grandson of Johan Christopher Switzer. I'm sorry if this is a bit waffly. I hope it makes sense to someone and that we can somehow make a leap forward.
