We have that bit of information, I am related to Barbara on the Ruttle side, many of my ancestors married into the ruttle lineage, I am also related to the Switzers and embury's. where is this taking place in Kingston, Ontario. I live in Brockville which is less than an hour away. My two sons live in Kingston as well. I would be very much interested in going to this. Please give us more information. I was in the Blue Church cemetary today taking more pictures of the graves. We will definitely need bug spray on the 29th of this month. They were terrible. Are you related to Donald Richardson in Kingston? I think if I am not mistaken he is related to the Doupe side of the family as well. From Adam Doupe? or is it Henry? I have that information on my site. www.geocities.com/judydrysdale Judy
I would like to add a little bit of information about Barbara Heck. Barbara Ruckle was born in Ireland. She was the daughter of Sebastian Ruckel and the grand daughter of Casper Ruckel. She left Ireland on the ship "Pery" with her husband Paul Heck and her cousin Philip Embury and his wife Margaret Switzer and other family members and friends in 1760 enroute to New York. In 1766 Barbara persuaded Philip Embury to preach after she found some of her countrymen playing a game of cards. She was responsible for helping to form the first Methodist Church in America and has been called the "Mother of Methodism". They left New York and went to Canada during the Revolutionary War... There is to be a Meeting in Kingston, Ontario, August 19-22, 2004 Celebrating the Mother of Methodism In America, Barbara Ruckle Heck. It will be a Joint Meeting of the Canadian Methodist Historical Society (CMHS) and the Historical Society United Methodist Church (HSUMC). We are trying to organize a Ruckle/Ruckel/Ruttle Reunion to be held during that time. Carole Ruckle Richardson
Washing machines would be what I would want my great-great grandmother to look at right away! Then the irons, stoves, refrigerators. I think automobiles would scare the bloomers off them, but then again, mine did smoke a pipe. Regards, Marilyn A. The location of the Blue Church is what, Judy? If it isn't too far that would be an excellent way to spend a Spring evening - bring the bug spray, though. Regards, Marilyn A. Dear Listers, I stumbled onto this terrific list in January via a site giving the origins of Irish surnames and the IPA site. Since then I've combed through the archive, been in touch with two listers, and much to my and my husband's delight, been able to map out as complete a tree as possible of my late Irish born mother-in-law's Palatine ancestry. And one of the listers turned out to be the husband of a previously unknown to us cousin of my husband. Many thanks to the other listers who have provided us with so much info., amusement and wonder - including the amazing Terry Pyper ( the last we heard from you was from Burgundy - surely you can't have become Beaune idle!); the indefatigable Ken Mc.Donald, Liz Haren and Judy Lyn; our mother-hen Susan Willig; and the spooky tablecloth. Now, does anyone please have any information on this Phillips family? Richard Phillips, son of Richard Phillips, both farmers of Knockhampton, Newport, Tipperary married Catherine Ruttle on Sept. 18th. 1907 at Nantenan Church. I suspect the Phillips family was not of Palatine origin although Catherine, of Ballingrane, Nantenan certainly was - all her ancestors were Palatines. Related to Richard, possibly his brother, was Evan Phillips of Oakhampton who died 14th. Feb. 1935 husband of Amelia, died 4th. Oct. 1925, and father of Richard, died 12th. Feb. 1919 and Jane, died. 14th. Feb. 1902. The Evan Phillips details came from a gravestone in the Newport church-yard ( the church had been demolished) which we visited in 1988. At that stage we knew nothing about my husband's Palatine connection. Unfortunately I came across this list and the IPA too late for us to organize ourselves for going on the IPA trip to the Pfalz later this month. We wish all the participants a happy and informative journey - we'll be following the itinerary in spirit. We may be able to visit Rathkeale in a year or so and we certainly plan to take part in the 2009 festivities. Salutations to all, Liz and John Venn.
Hi, all... Yes, indeed that was spam that was sent to the list about genealogy research. This individual played it a bit differently in that he went to the trouble to subscribe to the list in the correct fashion. Rest assured that his address has been unsubbed and blocked. It's great to see the list so active. Hooray! Susan IP List Admin
Fellow genealogists, Have you ever used the Internet to learn about genealogy methods and resources? Taken a genealogy course online? Read some 'how to' articles? Then I would like to hear from you. I am an Australian Ph.D. student who is currently writing a book chapter for an academic Virtual Learning Environment publication - my chapter is about using the Internet for genealogical education. I would therefore love to hear from you, fellow genealogists, about any Internet-based content you've used for genealogy education. This includes online courses (free or fee), how-to's, articles/columns, newsgroups, BBS, chat, mailing lists, forums, or even personal web pages that publish learning material - anything online that helps you in learning the craft of genealogy. Your comments on the following is of utmost interest: What are your favourite learning outlets on the Internet? How often do you use them? Can or did you find what you needed online? What are your learning successes? What could be better? What do you look for in genealogical learning on the Internet? If you would like to participate, your comments are extremely welcome. Please send your comments to me directly at research@veale.com.au before Saturday 1st May 2004. I thank you in advance for your participation in this academic research. Kylie Veale P.S. Names and email addresses will be protected and are therefore not included in the publication. Copies of the paper will be made available to interested participants on request, after the book has been published. ----------------------------------------------- Kylie J. That is what I thought! who does that? I did not go thru all that rigamarole to learn genealogy. I think you have to have a love of family and heritage to do what we do. It is not something you learn online. How many waited to be on the internet before they started the family tree? I didn't. Anyway, it is 10:30 pm here, and I am off to bed. Tomorrow is another day.
