    3. I'm new to Irish Palatines, I have done a lot of research on the New York Palatines. Fort Klock Historic Restoration, has a web site and links with great info on the Palatines. http:www.global2000.net/fortklock/history.html, also try the links. Many of these settlers were an important part of the Battle of Oriskany during the U.S.Revolutionary War, where lists of names of those in the regiments are posted. Herkimer Co.,Tryon Co., and Montgomery Co. links are also good sources. Many of the Palatine families, served under General Nicholas Herkimer.

    2. I can't recall the few who are in England that would like a copy of this "manuscript" (for lack of a better term) so I'll just put this out on the list. I realized I'm in Belfast quite a bit and can always make use of British pounds, so if its easier you can send me British pounds by mail and I'll just pay my employer in American Dollars. I'll always use the British money. Thanks! Liz Haren

    2. Martin Mitchell
    3. Dear Kate Many thanks indeed for replying to my message on IRL-PALATINE. You have prompted me to read up more about the Blennerhassett history. With regard to the Palatine names you mention, I'm a Barkman descendent myself, and do know of family connections/intermarriages with the Blennerhassett, Fitzell, Hoffman etc families from the Ballymacelligott area. So there's quite a coincidence here! I don't know a great deal more about the history of this song - the Gaelic version I have that mentions Bhaile an tSioda was handed to me by a friend. I wonder if you know more about it? My mother was born near Adare Co. Limerick (Barkman) - but I was born and bread in England. My knowledge of the Irish language is very poor I'm afraid. But I try to link my interest in tracing my own family history with wider understanding of history, geography, culture etc. Once again, many thanks for your help. 3. Hi, Cathy - ><< I wonder though, what one needs to view the film, as I don't have >access to certain projectors, and will wait for your answer before >requesting a copy. Cathy Behan >> The LDS films are on microfilm reels and one must go to an LDS Family History Center and use one of their microfilm readers to view the film. Rental of films through the LDS FHC's is very inexpensive. It usually costs about $3.25 to order a film for a period of about 6 weeks. The film stays at the FHC for that entire period and you can view it during hours the FHC is open. Then, if you wish to renew the film, that can be done for a second payment of $3.25 and if you wish to have the film kept at the FHC indefinitely, there is a third payment of $3.25. Otherwise, the film is returned to Salt Lake City to the main library archives there... 3. Hi Norma There is only a short paragraph in Jones' book about the Balls. He says that "whether or not the Balls of Co. Limerick were of German ancestry is not yet firmly proven. There was, however, a 1709er family who settled in colonial America, descended from Johannes Ball and his wife Anna Catharina of 6719 Mauchenheim near Alzey, Germany [see my The Palatine Families of N.Y. Vol 1 pp. 14-16, for more on this interesting group] John Switzer of Dublin assigned a house to John Ball on 24 April 1784. A John Ball of Kilscannel parish md. Elizabeth Bovenhoizer of the same parish 3 Oct 1786; James Ball md. Margaret Shouldice of Killiheen 24 Nov 1790, and perhaps he was the same man as the James Ball, weaver of Killiheen, bur. 30 Nov 1800 (Rathkeale Chbk.)" That is all.
