I suspect you're right about Meraylar being Monaghan. If the handwriting is tight, it's easy to misread o as e, n as r, and gh as yl. You might post your information on the Scotch-Irish list, as many subscribers know a good bit about Scots who went back and forth to Ireland and then to Canada and the States.
