I am looking for any information about the surname STOOPS in Alsmeed, Monaghan. My 4th Great-Grandfather William Stoops was born about 1792 in Alsmeed. He joined the 26th regiment of Foot in 1812. He married Janet Grieve Nov. 11, 1841 in Edinburgh. He was discharged Sept 10, 1833. He died before 1841 ( Janet was a widow in the 1841 census). Also Joining the 26th regiment of Foot at the same time as William was a Richard Stoops. He was born abt 1790 in Alsmeed. I am guessing they were brothers. He married Isabella Swan in 1817 in Edinburgh. He also died before 1841 because Isabella was also a widow in the 1841 census. Any information about the STOOPS living near or around Alsmeed would be greatly appreciated. April
