    1. [IRL-MONAGHAN] McKenna Family of Tydavnet and Drumsheaver

    3. Firstly, may I thank Sean Rooney and Ann Harvey for their kind help when I began my research. The advice was very much appreciated. I'm writing to see if anyone has any advice on how I can progress my research as I've come to a bit of a stand-still. Does anyone know how it is possible to further your research beyond the 1901 Irish Census in order to go further back a generation? I would dearly love to visit Monaghan in person but it's just not possible and few Monaghan records seem to be available on-line. I've managed to trace my great-great grandfather Bernard McKenna (circa 1851-1905) of Feebaghbane, Tydavnet and his wife Mary McKenna (nee Cassidy / Carsley / Cassley - there are various spellings) born circa 1850. I've found out that Bernard had three siblings; Catherine, Mary and Francis and that his parents were Edward McKenna (of Drumsheaver - dates unknown) and Ellen McKenna (nee Sherry - also of Drumsheaver - dates unknown). It would be wonderful to be able to find out more about Edward and Ellen but I'm not sure where to look. Can anyone help? Also, has anyone had any success contacting Monaghan Ancestry? ([email protected]). I've e-mailed a couple of times but unfortunately I've had no response so far. Maybe I should concede and hand this over to a professional... Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Elaine McKenna (I've had to change my e-mail address because for some reason all messages fail to send from my other address...strange)

The Tydavnet area of Monaghan and the Roslea area of Fermanagh were/are closely linked for family connections. James
