Hi I am piecing my McKenna family history together, thanks with the help from this group. This is what I have found/know so far. Ross & Mary McKenna are from near Emyvale. Some of the name places used on certificates here in Australia were: Kiladran, Killaveen, Killaneen , Emyvale, Truagh. With the help of someone from this group, they showed me the Griffiths Valuations had a Ross McKenna from Killydreen (north of Emyvale). I know from some letters received in 1914 that Ross and Mary are buried in Errigal Truagh cemetery with their daughter Catherine who died in 1912. >From those letters I have successfully traced Catherine's family in census' in Ireland and England (pre & including 1911) My ancestor is Charles Bernard McKenna born around 1842 and recently through Genes Reunited I have come into contact with descendants of two of his sisters who also emigrated to Australia.** One emigrated with Charles (in 1866) and the other followed some years later (in 1874). These sisters were named Ellen (possibly also born around 1842) and Rose (possibly born around 1854). Ellen and Charles were in Scotland before they emigrated. Ellen had married Matthew Carroll (in Scotland) and had a baby son Matthew at the time of emigration. Charles married later in Australia. I obtained the microfilm from LDS for the Errigal Truagh parish, as recommended. I wasn't very successful in finding my McKennas because of the amount of McKenna's (!) and the records being in Latin. Those couple of hours nearly made my head spin. The closest I came was finding a birth in 1839 (Oct 7) to a Roscio and Maria McKenna - Jacob McKenna (sponsor - Maria Cassidy (?)). Then the next one was in 1842 (April 17) - harder to read - a girl Francisco (? not sure) to Rosscio & Maria McKenna. So what I am thinking now is that I need to hire a genealogist in Ireland to confirm some of these details for me. I would like to know for sure that the Ross McKenna from Killydreen is my Ross McKenna . Can anyone recommend a genealogist? I am also planning a visit to Ireland next year and would like to visit Emyvale. I won't have time on this trip to do research. So thank-you everyone for your help so far. I would appreciate any more advice you can give, Sorry this email was so long, Kindest regards, Karen Webster. PS ** Finding out this information was a great discovery - especially when I followed Rose's line down and found that one of her descendants is my very close friend of over 30 years!!!
