Janet, You say that 'In reviewing the 1901 census, Hugh was widowed living with several of his children in Lehinch, Fermanagh where family lives to this day. I found a Hugh Maguire listed as nephew, born in Scotland in 1891 and now 9/10 years old.' I don't have the 1901 census for Lehinch, but from the index I'm presuming that this is the family you are referring to: Hugh McDonnell, age 70wd Celia McDonnell, age 29 Edward McDonnell, age 27 Thomas McDonnell, age 24 Maguire Hugh, age 9 Also in Lehinch in 1901, there is a William Farrell age 23 and unmarried. I don't know if he is living alone or with another family there. However, when you look at Lehinch in 1911, Thomas McDonnell is living alone and there are no other McDonnells living there. If you look at the house of William Farrell, he is now married with one child not a month old, a visitor Bridget Agnes Flynn age 13 is there, and his wife's name is Cecelia. Have you considered that Cecilia Farrell was the daughter of Hugh McDonnell and that Bridget Agnes Flynn might also be related either to the Farrells or the McDonnells? I may have made it too confusing. I definitely have my great great grandparents, Hugh McDonnell/McDonald and Bessie Maguire marrying in 1857 in St Mary's in Newtownbutler, Fermanagh. He was a farmer and worked all over southern Fermanagh therefore children were born and baptized in different areas. I have 9 of 13 children, per my great aunt who would have been their granddaughter. In reviewing the 1901 census, Hugh was widowed living with several of his children in Lehinch, Fermanagh where family lives to this day. I found a Hugh Maguire listed as nephew, born in Scotland in 1891 and now 9/10 years old. I then went to Scotland's people website and found only 2 Hugh Maguire's with only one meeting these criteria, living in the household of Edward Maguire and Mary Ann Devlin, his wife. I found their marriage certificate listing Terence Maguire, farmer, and Margaret Leonard, mother, as Edward's parents, therefore, Hugh Maguire's grandparents. The marriage certificate gave Ireland as place of residence for his parents. Since Bessie was a Maguire I am trying to make a solid connection of Terence and Bessie as brother and sister, although records are scarce. I suspect that by 1901 census that Terence is long gone as is his wife. I estimate his age to have been around mid-to late 30's at time of GV. I am waiting on some records from Scotland that may have further information about Terence and Margaret, hopefully a more precise location for their residence. They would have worshipped at St McCartens nearby in Aghadrumsee. The marriages and baptisms there would still be part of Sacred Heart, Clones (Town) records. The burials likely would have been at St McCartens. I don't understand your comment 'Next documentation that I have connecting Terence and Bessie is that Hugh Maguire, Terence's grandson, is living in their household in 1901 Fermanagh census listed as a nephew (great nephew?).' Im which townland where those you mention above living in 1901? What are the relationships of all the names you have mentioned, starting (I think) with Terence Maguire/Margaret Leonard, and do you know where Margaret Leonard was from? Dates are a bit off BUT names are familiar with McDonnell's and Maguires for sure. My Terence Maguire is listed as from Fermanagh/Monaghan and married a Margaret Leonard (from son's marriage certificate in 1877 in Scotland). I am rooting around in Clones /Galloon to figure out where they are from AND which ones they are. There is also a Terence Maguire in GV at Dernabacky in Clones parish but in Fermanagh. And he may not even be mine. Known facts are that a Bessie (Elizabeth) Maguire married Hugh McDonnell in Newtownbutler St Mary's RC Church ( my gr gr grandparent's). They wandered around the Fermanagh/Monaghan border area for the next 20-25 years with children born everywhere, 13 in all. Next documentation that I have connecting Terence and Bessie is that Hugh Maguire, Terence's grandson, is living in their household in 1901 Fermanagh census listed as a nephew (great nephew?). Isn't Irish genealogy intriguing and challenging ? Thanks again. Janet In reviewing your records again I note that given the age and time frame this could actually be the son of the Terence Maguire that I am seeking. In a message dated 3/14/2010 2:33:29 P.M.
