Tom Cassidy: I received your email addressed to [email protected]> dated April 15, 2010. I appreciate your contacting me and the availability of "Catholic Parish Records" at the Monaghan County Library. I hope to follow through and would appreciate knowing a little more about your affiliation. Where are you located? First I'll relate a story involving USA President Clinton. Usually after the election of a new USA President, the press in Ireland will work on the idea that they might be related to relatives in Ireland. They found a connection with newly elected Clinton and his mother, whose name was Cassidy. They soon located a "Cassidy" farmer, whom I believe was in Monaghan, and interviewed him. He admitted nothing of such a celebrity relationship and was further told that President Clinton might some day want to come to Ireland and visit him! The prospect didn't excite him in the least, while posing for pictures in his farm clothes. He was quoted as saying: "Well, he can come here to the farm if he wants to, but there's really not much for him to see". I've always wanted to tell that story to someone named Cassidy! Have you heard it before? Would you mind telling me of your association to Irish genealogy? Where are you located and how are you connected with my quest for my own Clones, Monaghan/Fermanagh McAviney/Gunn ancestors. I would like to thank you for your information on the source of Catholic Parish records. I'm not sure how best to contact the Monaghan County Library. I'd like to follow through on that. Hi Phil, When I saw your last name, I couldn't resist writing. My great-grandfather is Hugh McDonnell (1854-1900) from the Castleblayney area. I'm in New York, my parents emigrated in the 1950s. We're going to visit Monaghan next month for 1 week. Can't wait and I hope the volcanic dust cloud from Iceland is way gone. :) If I can help in any way, let me know.
