Cloninger" <aggie@rmci.net> To: IRL-MONAGHAN-D-request@rootsweb.com Dear Fellow Searchers, My great grandfather was JOHN MCCARNEY and the best information I can find tells me he was born in KILAVEN, CO. MONAGHAN, about 1824. He removed to Scotland where he was a coal miner and in 1849 in Gorbels Parish, Lanarkshire, he married Charlotte Marie Reid Simpson who had been born in County Down. They eventually had a family of 10 children before they moved to the USA where they lived in the City of New York. I have had no luck in locating his family or even anything about Kilaven. I would be very appreciative for any bit of information someone might have about either the family or the area. I do not know when he removed to Scotland nor why. Agnes E. Cloninger
It's possible he came from the parish of Killeevan, Co. Monaghan (near Clones).
