Could anyone tell me the Irish rules for naming children back in the early to mid 1800's? Was it different depending on the religious persuasion? I've hit a brick wall on my Michael McCabe and thought I might find some help in this way. All I know is he was born in 1855 supposedly in Monaghan and married Sarah Nixon from Fermanagh in 1871-2 before coming to NYC. Thanks for any help!
