Hi. I recommend you check the Tithe Applotment books for your ancestor. This was an assessment of land value done in the late 1820's in Co. Monaghan to determine the assessment for support of the Church of Ireland. His name is so unusual I am sure he will be the only one of that name in the county. You will find out not only townland, but there will be information on his holding which may be of interest to you. Films are available from the LDS.
