I am trying to locate a Mcquaid that was born in Ireland in 1868. Can anyone give me any clues on what to research. thanks jlallen@rmisp.com
Hi, For starters, check the birth indexes for Civil Registration. They started recording births in 1864. The LDS has these on microfilm. The LDS microfilm numbers are: 1864: 101041 1865: 101042 1866: 101043 1867: 101044 1868: 101045 1869: 101046 1870: 101047 If that doesn't produce anything try the "Householders Index", also available through the LDS. The "Householders Index" is a surname only (no individual names) index to surnames that appear in either the Tithe Applotment Books or Griffith's Valuation. It also lists the year that the surname was recorded in either of these enumerations. It is organized (at least on microfilm) by county. Within each county the names are organized by barony, parish and union. If you have a non-common surname it is fairly useful for narrowing down the location of ancestors in Ireland. For instance, once you have county, barony, and parish info you could then look in either Tithe Applotment Book records or Griffith's Valuation, both available on microfilm through the LDS. Hope this helps. Regards, Eric Strennen Researching families: STRENNEN, STREENAN, STREENEN ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jesse L.
