    3. I have just been looking at that film myself. I am morally certain that most of the families are not Catholic. Almost all the names in the film are English or Scottish. I noticed the 1690 comment about the Protestant inhabitants leaving, but I also found no records which would prove that any events were recorded while they were absent. Livingstone in his history of Monaghan does not mention an evacuation in 1690, but he does mention that in 1689 "The settlers in the Clones area [English and Scottish] abandoned their country dwellings and formed themselves into small garrisons at the Montgomery house in Ballyleck, at Redhills, and at Captain Townley's." But that event is described at the beginning of a chapter entitled "The Settlers Consolidate"; most of those who evacuated must have returned very soon. 3. Richard, you are correct about the names and about the desertion of the Protestants from the area for a few years, which did cause a break in the church records. I also recognized them as English/Scots names. I just looked in a good source, "Irish Records, Sources for Family and Local History" by James G. Ryan, Ph.D. On page 375 under Church of Ireland Records: Parish: Clones Existing Records: b. 1682; m. 1682; d. 1682 On page 377 under Roman Catholic Records: Civil Parish: Clones RC Parish: Clones Earliest Record: b. July, 1848; m. May 1821 Missing Dates: b. April, 1854-Apr, 1855; m. March 1840-Oct, 1840. This would indicate that the Clones Church Records found on LDS Microfilm No. 0897416 are indeed the very old Church of Ireland records of Clones Parish.
