I am new to the LIST My story: KINNEY/Kenny?McGuigan/McGonghan/McGoughan/McGough My great grandmother Ann McGuigan was born in Ireland. She married John Kenny/Kinney also of Ireland in Glasgow in 1850. They had Peter 1851 and John there in 1852. John Sr.came to Troy alone 1852 and worked as an Iron Moulder. Anne followed with the baby John in 1853. The older child Peter was not in the 1855 NYS census. My grandfather Henry was a year old in this census. The other children Elizabeth, James, Annie, George. Jane and Helen were born in Troy, Rochester ? or Yonkers NY. The family later moved to Philadelphia (1880 census), where I assume that the senior couple died and some of the children remained, ie. Peter and Annie and Elizabeth. Some interesting facts: I have located a record in Glasgow in May 12,1850...........Register of Proclamations in a Protestant Church..........(Parish Church of St. Josephs as indicated by a knowledgeable person) .... which states John Kenny iron moulder Cowcaddems and Ann McGughen residing there. Then the census of 1851 Glasgow............... John Kenna 22......Ann 20.........Peter 9mos Family History Library...................could this be a connection??????????????? Christening Jul 14 1833 Clonoe Tyrone Ireland Father Henry McGuigan Mother Jane This is fact: The Catholic Church Yonkers, New York State Jane born March 29th 1869 John Kinny and Ann McGonghan The same church Helen born. 1871.........John Kenny and Ann MCGuigan
As a McGuigan, I read your note with great interest. We are McGuigans who seem to have first drawn breath in Ireland---moved to PEI in Canada and are found there in the 1840 period. I have the name Hugh McGuigan born in Ireland and married a Catherine Smith---I have been unable to go further back than Hugh--place of birth in Ireland unknow---yet---We have some family illness right now, but I will send you the data I have located and see if the family might have branched off to NY at some point---and been one big happy family! Will do so as soon as possible---sincerely Catherine McGuigan ----- Original Message ----- From: <Gara1931@aol.com> To: <IRL-MONAGHAN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, April 10, 2000 8:20 AM Subject: [MONAGHAN] McGuigan/Kinney > I am new to the LIST > My story: > KINNEY/Kenny?McGuigan/McGonghan/McGoughan/McGough > My great grandmother Ann McGuigan was born in Ireland. Hi, I saw your posting and wondered if you have contact with a Margaret McGuigan in Manchester England. Many of her deceased husband's relations in Ireland have names similar to yours. She is not on the net, so I will snailmail her and ask her if you have a connection. Regards, Therese in Queensland, Australia.
