I checked my copy of the "Spinning Wheel List of 1796" for Currin Parish and see the following listing: Gorman, John - 1 spinning wheel Since his is the only entry with that surname, the chances are reasonable good that he was the father of your James Gorman. You didn't mention a placename [townland or parish] nor did you mention a religion. If you know either of these, I might be able to advise you further. By the way, the mention of "1 spinning wheel" means that John Gorman devoted one rood of good quality farm land to the growing of flax and the spinning wheel was awarded to him "To encourage the growth of Flax throughout the Kingdom."
