    1. Re: [MONAGHAN~] Re:McNaney or McNeany
    2. Mary, I have found that the McNaney, (McEneny, McNeany, McEnaney, etc.) all come originally from Monaghan. I am trying to find a reputable researcher in Ireland to sort them out. What I have found out through our oral history, is that a group of brothers traveled from Monaghan to Cobh or Cork where they caught a "coffin" ship to NY, traveling in steerage. As such there may be no record of their crossing until they get to Ellis Island. It is then thought that they traveled to upstate NY and worked as farm hands until they saved enough to spread out. My family bought a homestead that is now a highway and the other brother went in all directions. Unfortunately I don't have the names of all the brothers yet. But with the propensity of the Irish to keep certain names in the family I am looking for the names, William, John, Patrick, Henry and Edward. Obviously there may be others but these are names that repeat in the family.

    3. Hello, if you find a reputable researcher in Ireland, please let me know as I too need help over there. Am at a dead end in locating my family Gillis (of the Meth. Church of Ireland, apparently) from Glasslough area. Thanks much, Jim Marchand.
