    2. Denis Onieal
    3. Folks... Need to rry this again, the first messsage got garbled..... I have the following information about my Lennon family from Co. Monaghan. Would like to know if anyone has any connection, or information? PETER LENNON MARRIED CATHERINE WALSH Aughnamullen East (also called Lough Egish) Church Clogher Diocese County Monaghan, Ireland September 27, 1850 Their witnesses were Edward McMahon and Mary McMahon. We believe that this couple is our ancestor, and that they had a son James (who we know is our ancestor) was born around 1860 or 1861. >From Aughnamullen East Church records, there were two Lennon children born around that time, one on October 28, 1860, son of Peter and Mary (not Catherine). The name is very blurry on the record, but it looks like it could be Bernard. Another Lennon child was baptized on March 23, 1859, whose parents were James Lennon and Anna Moan or Sloan. This child's first name was completely obliterated. JAMES LENNON MARRIED CATHERINE REILLY Aughnamullen East (Lough Egish) Church Clogher Diocese County Monaghan, Ireland October 18, 1880 Catherine Reilly of Creve was the daughter of Francis Reilly of Creve, a worker at Creve. Marriage records list Catherine as 21 years of age, a Spinster. James was listed as a worker at Creve, and a bachelor, age 19. Their marriage certificates (civil and religious) are attached. The marriage was witnessed by John Dignam and Mary Reilly. The name Dignam plays an interesting part in the history, because the Dignam Family owned the flax mills in Creve, which was the place of employment for James' and Catherine's fathers. James also worked at Dignam's Mills as a scutcher. A scutcher was a person who broke off the outer shell of the flax plant, the bark, leaving only the flax fiber to be processed. A scutcher worked on a piece work basis, and sometimes moved around from mill to mill if the piece work pay rate was higher in another mill. In order to attract good workers, the Dignam's erected a row of one story, three room houses called "Dignam's Slates." The name "slate" came from the fact that these houses had slate roofs, not thatched. If a mill owner had "a good man," then he would offer him use of the house at reasonable or no cost. The houses were close to the mill. James and Catherine Reilly Lennon had five sons: Peter born August 28, 1881, baptized in Aughnamullen East Church on August 30. The sponsors were Frank Reilly and Elizabeth Reilly. (Surely Catherine's family) Francis born April 4, 1885, baptized Aughnamullen East on April 5, sponsors were Francis Reilly and Mary Ann Lenon (again, probably relatives of James and Catherine) Thomas born March 24, 1887, baptized in Latton Church (Aughnamullen West) William John born January 4, 1889, baptized January 4, St. Patrick's Church (Tullycorbett Parish). Sponsors were John Mc Quillan and Catherine Mc Mahon. William John came to America in 1912. James John born April 21, 1893 in Drumfaldra, baptized in St. Patrick's Church (Tullycorbett Parish). As part of this entry, it should be noted that Catherine Reilly appears with several names in official records. On her civil marriage certificate her name is Cathain. On her son William John's marriage certificate to Mary Terese Mc Nulty, he lists his mother's name as Anna Catherine. Other than being the daughter of Francis Reilly, I found no information in church records indicating Catherine's baptism or her mother's name. Searches of other church's records are planned.
