    3. I have two ancestors from Co. Monaghan: 1) John McKee (1817-1879) son of Joseph McKee and Sarah Peacock, probably of Muckno Parish. He had siblings: Jane, Robert, Jemima, David. There were three other siblings unaccounted for. He was a weaver, left Ireland in 1839, and became a gardener and then policeman in New York City. 2) George Ross (1808-1880) parents unknown but possibly Robert and Mary. He was a weaver who emigrated in 1828. He settled in New York City where he became a cotton "manufacturer" - provided materials and equipment to hand loom weavers in return for the finished product at a set price. Left this occupation by Civil War, invested in NY real estate, and before death built Rossmore Hotel on what is now Times Square. Very likely had relatives in NY when he arrived, possibly a Thomas, but no proof. Joan
