I have made some progress since my last posting. Robert WEIR (1830-1905) was the son of Lancelot and Margaret WEIR. They also had a daughter Mary (1828-1914) who married 1) Alexander LINTON and 2) Hugh LINTON - brothers whose parents were Alexander LINTON and Mary WEIR. I know that Lancelot and his family emigrated to Canada from Monaghan in 1837. Some of the LINTONs were already in the same area (Northumberland County, Ontario). I suspect that the WEIRs and the LINTONs knew each other in Ireland and possibly came from the sme area in Monaghan which I have yet been able to identify. All this to say, anyone out there researching either of the above surnames - we may have a connection - I have a number of WEIR - LINTON marriages. It all gets very confusing! Patty
