There were over 60 MARTINs in just the Donaghmoyne parish alone, in 1823 Tithe Applotment index. The barony of Farney. There are still some there today. I have a football history of Donaghmoyne parish that lists several Martins as players, with some team photos going back to about 1912. > Aside from the fact that I know little about each of the "Barony" >(including perhaps proper spelling)............ If Ann Harney's site doesn't have a map of the Monaghan baronies, I can send you one. The barony spellings in the book; "The Monaghan Story", by Livingstone are; TRUAGH, MONAGHAN, DARTREY, CREMORNE, FARNEY. I see "Trough" and "Truagh" used. I was told that one of those was completely wrong and meant something entirely out of place for a placename, but forgot which one it was. >I see that nearly half of all MARTINs in Monaghan are from the southern >Barony of Farney(?), and son Bryan's naturalization papers have him born >1799 in Carrickmacross (also in this Barony). Donaghmoyne begins just above the town of Carrickmacross. >What should I learn about Farney Barony to aid in my research? I believe the Marquis of Bath was landlord of most if not all of that parish, with Shirley owning the majority of lands in the barony. I don't know where to tell you to look for records though. There are Bath papers on the Web, but they won't be of any help to you.
