To VIEW properly, MAXIMIZE this note in your WINDOW at font size 10. I sent this to list earlier but accidently had Rich Text Format. Sorry. My Irish MARTIN family all came & settled in Boston, MA ca 1825. A very kind soul did a look-up for me of MARTIN listings in The Flax Growers Bounty List, 1796 for County Monaghan, Ireland. At first, I was surprised to see so many ... 44 total spread out over the entire county. However, as I looked further, I noticed a pattern evolving with a bias toward the southern civil parishes. I reformatted the info so the extent of any trend would be easier to see. Below is the result and my thoughts underneath. Please correct me in Barony spelling! Any comments? The earliest known ancestor in my MARTIN family was Edward; son's named: Bryan, James, Patrick, Peter, Thomas. I see that nearly half of all MARTINs in Monaghan are from the southern Barony of Farney(?), and son Bryan's naturalization papers have him born 1799 in Carrickmacross (also in this Barony). I also note that the ONLY instances of the given names Edward, Bryan, Peter and Thomas are of this southern Barony. In the case of the names James and Patrick, the majority are also in the south. Of special note, an old family note said that son James was born Killanny parish ca 1810. Conclusion: Given the likely birthyear range of the sons of Edward (est 1785-1815 ), at least SOME of the above are likely uncles and Edward of Donaghmoyne parish in 1796 could be the immigrant ancestor. Am I seeing too much here? What should I learn about Farney Barony to aid in my research? regards, Al Rose
