    1. [IRL-MONAGHAN] Irish in Hong Kong

    3. I am currently researching and writing a book called: /The Silver Bowl: The Unexpectedly Irish Roots of HSBC/. It centers on Thomas JACKSON, of Huguenot and Scots-Irish heritage. He was born in Co. Leitrim, raised in Co. Armagh, and schooled in Co. Dublin - but his story also touches on just about every other county in Ireland. His father was Church of Ireland, and his mother Presbyterian. He also brought several Catholics out to work with him in Hong Kong. I will be going to Hong Kong in November to do more research (and will be speaking at the Royal Asiatic Society while I am there). If anyone on this list has people of interest of Irish ancestry who were in Hong Kong in the mid to late 1800s, let me know and I will keep an eye out for traces of them. Sharon PS If you click on the "topic" hyperlink on my blog, you will find some Irish-related research that is not on my website: http://sharonoddiebrown.blogspot.ca In the next few days, I plan to post a piece there about the 8 Irishmen who served as Governors inHong Kong in the 1800s. -- Sharon Oddie Brown, Roberts Creek, BC, Canada.
