    1. Re: [IRL-MONAGHAN] A Cassiday/Cassidy Puzzle
    2. Twenty years of childbearing not unusual. One of my grgrandmothers had 13 children over 30 years! Looks like a regular Catholic marriage recording. You should really check films of the original records if possible, as you may find more children. Transcribers often miss entries that eagle-eyed descendants catch. Here's a link to the status of the Errigal Truagh records: http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/fuses/rcparishmaps/index.cfm?fuseaction=showidrecords&CityCounty=Monaghan&parish=Errigal-Truagh&churchid=309 Unfortunately, the LDS haven't filmed Donagh, so you'd have to ask someone to check the film in Dublin or Belfast for the marriage record. The version the transcriber provided looks like a shortened version of a normal Catholic marriage record. The original will probably show witnesses, possibly also parents. I have found Francis b. 1866 the parents living in Derrynasell East probably with the mothers McKenna family. My ggrandfather Hugh was b.1859-61 don't know where. I have been speculating that my Hugh was one of the early children and Hugh Cassiday/Bridget McKenna were married a few years before that time. Now comes the puzzle, I input the parents names in rootsireland, they gave me an Ellen Cassidy b.Dec. 1850, in Donagh Parish, Monaghan, however their source is shown as microfilm entries 1861-1881? Paying for records I searched for the marriage of Hugh CASSIDAY/Bridget McKenna this brought up Hugh CASSIDY/Bridget McKenna "Church Marriage Record" Nov. 22, 1846, Parish Errigal Truagh, Monaghan, no townland listed, no parents, no relatives, witnesses James McElroy/Mary Kelly. No Church or denomination, Listed at the bottom is "Banns dispensed, Priest : Rev. Paul McCusker CC". I don't know if this indicates it was an actual RC ceremony, shot gun wedding or what. If this is the same couple that were parents of my Hugh and Francis it woiuld indicate 20 years of child bearing. I have found no other children than, Ellen 1850 Hugh 1859-61 Francis 1866. Any words of wisdom out there?
