    3. Roisin, I second Mike's recommendation (below) to order the 97907 microfilm from the LDS Center. You get the opportunity to scroll through page after page of original documents, which also lends itself to unexpected finds, and to getting real familiar with the names of all the families in a particular area. One caution though -- the earliest years of these baptism records are in extremely poor shape: faded ink, difficult handwriting, some sections in Latin and/or greatly abbreviated, some pages were literally crumbling apart when they were microfilmed. Don't be put off by those sections! Keep going, it gets better. I found it helpful to work in the 1870s section, then go back to tackle the earlier parts. Mike, I had Nogher ancestors in Drumcrew -- an uncommon name that shows up nowhere else. What are your family lines from that area? And do you know what the status is of baptism and marriage records from the RC church up the road in Clontibret? I was told that they were damaged/destroyed before getting microfilmed, but I'd love to know if that's really the case, or what might still be in existence. The starting date is 1835. (I found a marriage record for my family from 1855. Going back to look again is on my to-do list.) LDS microfilm "979707 Items 4 - 6": Baptisms, 1835-1862; marriages, 1835-1862; baptisms, 1862-1869; marriages, 1862-1868; baptisms, 1868-1881. McArdle is a popular name so it may take extra luck to identify the right ones. I manage the Monaghan links page at IGP: http://www.igp-web.com/monaghan/index.html The Monaghan Library has a good list of info: http://www.monaghan.ie/contentv3/services/library/historygenealogy/ Download their pdf "Tracing Your Ancestors" guide. 3. Hi Karen, Nice to meet you online. We'll have to compare notes. My family in Drumcrew is Boyle married to Warnock, Boyle married to Jackson, Jackson married to O'Connor. And I believe O'Connor is really Nogher. If you look at Griffiths, my family is listed in Drumcrew at number 7b - Peter Jackson. He married Ann O'Connor and was a railway worker, supposedly from Drogheda. James Nogher is listed for number 7a. I have come to assume this is really O'Connor. (can't remember where I learned this connection from O'Connor to Nogher). The RC Church you're talking about is St Michael's in Annyalla. It happens to be right down the road from where my father is from in Moneyvolan. I found some history online for this church: 1799 - Old chapel of St Michael's built in Annyalla, Monaghan, Ireland http://www.parishofclontibret.com/html/history.html 1922-1927 - Present St Michael's Church built, Annyalla, Monaghan, Ireland http://www.parishofclontibret.com/html/annyallac.html The 1855 marriage I found in St Mary's is Michael Carragher (Moneyvolan) married to Mary Murphy (Tullynagrow). So I don't really know when separate records start for the church in Annyalla. I need to figure that out. Look forward to staying in touch.
