NAMES from Monaghan: MCGUIRK; WOODS, MCDONALD, COMISKEY I continue to search for the townlands where my Monaghan ancestors lived. Bennet MCGUIRK was born in Monaghan about Oct 31, 1825-1830. His parents were Patric MCGUIRK and Bridget WOODS. He was supposed to be one of 8 sons. He emigrated to Scotland about 1847-48 and to the US about 1848-1850. By 1852 he was in Galena, Ill, USA where he married Mary MCDONALD (born about 1831) who was also from Monaghan. Her parents were Alexander and Rose. Their childrens were Patrick, Alexander, Mary (Mamie), Edward Benedict, Thomas and Rose. Also living in Galena were their relatives, James and Edward WOODS and Owen COMISKEY. So far I have been unable to identify the townland or parish where MCGUIRK and MCDONALD were born. Any suggestions? -----Original Message----- From: irl-monaghan-request <irl-monaghan-request@rootsweb.com> To: irl-monaghan <irl-monaghan@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sun, Dec 9, 2012 2:15 am Subject: IRL-MONAGHAN Digest, Vol 7, Issue 185 +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Put SURNAMES in CAPS Today's Topics: 1. I thought the list might like to see them: http://www.igp-web.com/IGPArchives/ire/monaghan/photos.htm If you want to add an Irish ancestor's photo you might have, you can send it to me and I will resize it and put it up. Just be sure to tell who it is. Thanks Sean! If you haven't already done so, I would suggest you try looking in the area between Colgagh townland and Cornaneriff townland. Colgagh is on the county line with Armagh, south west of Crossmaglen, and Cornaneriff is about 5 kilometres a bit north of due west of Colgagh.
