I am seeking any information about Bernard McQUADE and/or his wife Mary TRAINOR (TRAINER) from Glaslough, Monaghan. They had at least one son, Charles McQUADE, born in Glaslough about 1845 and who later emigrated to Newburyport, MA, USA. Is there an RC cemetery near Glaslough where Bernard and Mary might be buried? Has anyone reading this either seen or photographed that gravestone? John Grimes

Familysearch.org has added Prison Registers to their Ireland Collection. There are some Monaghan born in the database. Many seem to be convicted elsewhere. https://familysearch.org/search/collection/list#page=1&countryId=1927084 You might want to try it out. Christina
Thank you Diane for your reply. Its like looking for a needle in a haystack! I would like to hope that Peter Fagan from Carrickmacross is from our line, but I have no way of knowing if this is so. The first son of my g/grandmother was Peter and if they adhered to the naming system could be my g/g/grandfather or g/uncle? Thank you for your reply Jean. I don't know much about the Hanrattys and don't know of any who went to Scotland. Griffith's shows three Peter Fagans in southeast Monaghan. Since that's not a common name, good chance they were related to each other and to your branch, but as you say, no way to know for sure. Its like looking for a needle in a haystack! I would like to hope that Peter Fagan from Carrickmacross is from our line, but I have no way of knowing if this is so. dlculhane Have found him on the census of 1901 and 1911. Know where he lived in Belfast but just where he was born and date that I would like. Thanks
Chrisnina He was born in Castleblayney in Church of Ireland Muckno. Thanks for looking him up for me.
Yes. Church of Ireland Muckno. Have looked at the church records and they do not go back to the 1850's.
There is one William Armstrong on the RootsIreland database: 1 match for the search criteria: Armstrong william 1851 Parish: CLONES (CI) http://monaghan.rootsireland.ie/ You might be able to tell by adding his father's name, whether you want to purchase this record. http://monaghan.rootsireland.ie/ Good luck! Do you know which church he attended? Some records go back to 1840. I can't find him in the civil birth index, which suggests he was born before 1864. However, there is a possibility in the 1901 census. If you search for William Armstrong in Antrim, Church of Ireland, born in Monaghan, you'll find one age 42 with wife Annie, age 27 and Catholic. I don't find them in 1911 but you might hunt around a bit. Ages on death certificates not all that reliable as informant obviously not the deceased.) You might also try posting to Antrim and Belfast lists, as someone may be able to direct you to an obituary or some other useful information. Good morning from not so sunny England!!! My Irish/ Co.Monaghan roots are vague to say the least! My gt gt grandfather Joseph Smyth joined the army, Royal Engineers, in 1849 in Glasgow. He was a wheeler, born 1827 in Kilmore, Co.Monaghan. His father was Joseph Smith/Smyth, mother was Elisabeth HUGHES. And that is all I know about the Irish side!! Where can I start looking??? any help would be gratefully received. kind regards, Eileen From: Johann <johann@westnet.com.au> To: irl-monaghan@rootsweb.com Sent: Wednesday, 27 June 2012, 7:16 Subject: Re: [IRL-MONAGHAN] McCann Family Many thanks.
