Yes, Ballybay is in Castleblayney district. Her name was Catherine McCabe according to Patrick's death record. Patrick's father, Owen Coyle, was listed as a widower age 70yrs living with Patrick in NYC's 1855 census. Yes you are correct...just realized that after I posted! Of course I could pretend I posted that just to see if anyone noticed!! LOL No, I don't think anyone is photographing RC Cemeteries in Monaghan, there is a nice cemetery at this church, had it photographed but had to delete them to make space on camera memory card to get Killeevan Cemetery for myself. I have inherited the Rootsweb CMC list from Don Kelly. This list was originally created to be an adjunct to the CMC project which was an online project for Christening, Marriage and Cemetery records. The project is no longer online and the records there appear to be lost. So the question is - what to do with the list? After thinking about it I felt it might be worth it to try and revitalize this list. We will call it CMC for Church, Memorial and Cemetery. I think Church covers marriages. Memorials can be and often are located in a church (like plaques), and Cemeteries covers well...Cemeteries. That covers the original topics. So, the list will be a place to ask about cemeteries and church records anywhere in Ireland. If you would like to join and ask questions or provide advice, the page with joining information is at: http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/intl/IRL/CMC.html If you need help joining...drop me a line OFF list. chrisnina@gmail.com *If you know someone who might like to join the *new improved* list, please send them the link for joining. Normally a marriage was registered once, in the district where the marriage took place. As to the information on familysearch, that's the index information only. To get a photocopy of the original registration, with much more information, you have to write the GRO in Ireland or the LDS for those years they've filmed (births 1864-81, 1900-13, 1930-55; deaths and marriages 1864-70). And indeed, not everyone registered, especially in the early years. The figures for the birth dates come from the two census, but they are approximate because, just as with the US census information from those days, people simply didn't know when they were born. The Familysearch information is some of the least helpful I've found, especially for Ireland. Their records seem to be spotty, some registered others not, and often only the name and the year are available, but no way to certify who among the multiple possibilities is yours. Same thing for Ancestry.com records for Ireland. About the latter, though, I have a question. When one searches for marriage records, a name and approximate date are given but not the parents' names or the spouse's. Clicking on the link for names appearing on the same page is only helpful if you already know the spouse's name. I have a record for Patrick COYLE's marriage in the April - June quarter of 1951, registered in Castleblaney, and for Annie R McCAFFREY that same quarter of 1951 but with registration in Monaghan. I have a strong suspicion that these two are spouses. Here is my question: Are spouses registered in the district where they married or are they registered in the district where they reside? Is it possible that Patrick from Roo married Annie from, say, Monaghan town, and that each appears therefore on a separate page of the registry for that year? hi, I have a question regarding the Tithe Applotment books - are details only available for Monaghan on Ancestry ?? I have 3 people I am interested in but don't have Ancestry membership to see the records. Records do appear to exist for Patrick McKENNA, I am looking for the one from ANNAHAGH, Scotstown. Also records exist seem to exist for Hugh and Patrick McGUIRK, I am interested in the ones from ANNAGALLY, Killylough. If someone could do a lookup for me,I would be very grateful. Regards, SEAN
Just a note about the spelling of one parish name. The site lists the parish "Ennigle Trough", and it should be Errigal Trough. Loretta (Lynn) Layman
Just poked around on familysearch and they have the images.
