    3. John and list, I have seen this topic before, but some time back. There is really no point in starting a we hate Ancestry topic. If you don't like Ancestry...don't subscribe. As for this list, we need to stick to genealogy and Monaghan. If you have further questions, you can contact me off list. 3. It is becoming obvious that many users are fed up with Ancestry and its latest shenanigans. I would add to the complaints in the article cited below that Ancestry deliberately at times ignores its own parameters. Things as simple as checking "EXACT" for two search items often result in an automatic "NO RECORDS FOUND" message; Ancestry wants to pretend it is giving you lots of results, but uncheck "EXACT" and in fact most if not all of what you get is junk. Often you tell Ancestry that your search is for, say, a female, and still more than half the results end up being for males! I am sure most of you can cite your own horror stories at Ancestry. Personally, I am beginning to think the monthly price is more than I want to pay for this kind of "service." John Grimes http://blog.dearmyrtle.com/2013/04/ancestrycom-wants-us-to-create-trees.html

    1. [MONAGHAN] Jane Darby, lived Cavan, Died Monaghan 1942
    2. Hi Listers, Today I have received the death certificate of Jane Darby, married, 80 years old. She died February 14, 1942 at Mental Hospital, Monaghan. She was from "at home" Cavan. There are no relatives listed on the certificate. Would the hospital have any records dating back that far? I suspect not but must ask the question. I have been in contact with the Monaghan liabrary and Catriona assures me that there was no obituary listed for her. I suspect, stronger now that it says that she is from Cavan, that this is my missing Ggreat Aunt, my great grandfather's older sister, born Jane Anne McDonnell. She married William Darby, from Cavan, in Monaghan in 1882. How do I go about finding any descendants? There were 3 children listed on rootsireland, 2 daughters and a son. Ann, James William, and ? (cant remember). There are several Ann Darby's on Family search and one had died as an infant, so I am not sure if her daughter died. They do not appear in the 1901 and 1911 census with the husband, although he is listed as married so I am stumped. They do not appear in all of Ireland! I also checked Scotland and England thinking they had left her husband. I was really lucky to spot this while browsing Family search. I am coming to Ireland in the fall, meeting a known cousin, and visiting a newly found cousin, all from this Jane's siblings. Would love to connect to any surviving family but what to do? Janet

    2. The Griffith's index shows Carneys only in Clones parish (McCarneys in a few more parishes). You might look for Francis's baptism in the church records. There are lots of Corrigans scattered throughout Monaghan, no Crossins, but one Crossan in Magheross civil parish, which also has two Corrigans. This suggests that your ancestors came from south Monaghan. >> >> Next time you post, be sure to put their names in the subject line so if some distant relative searches the archives in a few years, he or she will spot your post. >> >> Diane >> >> >> >> -----Original Message----- >> From: D Corrigan <corrigan_diana@hotmail.com> >> To: IRL-MONAGHAN <IRL-MONAGHAN@rootsweb.com> >> Sent: Mon, Aug 13, 2012 7:56 am >> Subject: [IRL-MONAGHAN] <no subject> >> >> >> I am looking for any information about a John Corrigan born around >> 1800-1810 who married a Margaret Crossin born around same time. In regards to the buildings where a school was in use; "The school at Corrackan was in a mud cabin. Francis Carney of Clones used a Kitchen, James McManus of Annaghkilly, Clones, taught in a wheat store, " etc, etc...... (Probably circa 1830 ?). Page 555, in the Ballybay chapter mentions a Father Andrew Carney who built St. Patrick's church between 1860 and 1875.
