Hello Everyone, I am new to your list and hoping to find someone who can tell me how to find out anything about the above families in or near Emyvale in 1800 to 1880. Also, to where do I apply for a Marriage Certificate, for a marriage which took place at St. Mary's, Clogher. Does anyone know if the LDS have records for that church. Was Emyvale a very small place at that time? I realize that there are lots of McKENNAs in that area but would the fact that they were known as the Baron or Barn McKennas narrow the search down a bit? Elizabeth PENDLETON was my g.g. grandmother and she may have been from Aghaloo. Is Pendleton a local name? It does not sound Irish. She married James McKenna and they had at least nine children. The eldest, my g.grandfather was also James born 1851. He married Mary McCALLEN in 1872. What information would I have to give to obtain a certificate other than the number 18 - 243 which was on the LDS film. I would be eternally grateful if someone can tell me how I can find any information. Hopefully, Therese in Queensland Australia.
Greetings Listers: Thanks to everyone who responded regarding my Griffith's question posted on the newsgroup. I am seeking information regarding my MCARDLE/ DALY relatives in Carrickmacross, Ireland. My great aunt, who is now deceased, provided me with most of the following information: My paternal great grand father was Patrick J. MCARDLE, b.3/4/1866 in Carrickmacross. His father was Phillip MCARDLE who according to Patrick's marriage certificate was born in Drumboory, Carrickmacross, date unknown. Phillip's wife was Alice BRANIGAN which may have been his second wife. Phillip married Catherine DALY (b. 5/17/1863) on 6/10/1888 in Carrickmacross at St.Joseph's Catholic Church Catherine's parents were Luke DALY of Curkishbane, Carrickmacross. Luke's wife was Judith______, which may have been his second wife, also. Other children born to Phillip MCARDLE were Phillip, Henry Eugene (b.1871), Alice, and Catherine (b.1865) Phillip and Alice remained in Ireland. Other children born to Luke DALY were Margaret and George (b.Feb 1861). Of interest is that Catherine McARDLE married George DALY. Therefore, a MCARDLE brother and sister married a DALY brother and sister. Any information anyone can give me regarding these folks would be greatly appreciated. In addition to learning about their ancestors, I would especially like to know about any current descendants as we may be visiting there this Summer. Thanks in advance Karen Jean Williams Dodd Orange County, California, USA
If Sir Geo. Forster was the landowner in Coolderry. Perhaps more info can be obtained at the Public Record Office Northern Ireland. It's in Belfast. They have a web page: http://proni.nics.gov.uk/ If you do get over there. It's in a nice area - Malone district. And your guide book will list the B&Bs available. I usually stay at the Hotel up the road past the Queen's University. But, a lot of the records for Ulster - including Monaghan (south Ulster) are stored there. jean P.S. If you're a little wary of your safety, I've been told they haven't lost a tourist yet!!
I found Coolderry on my parish map of Donaghmoyne. It is in the extreme lower lefthand corner of the parish and is juts down into and is nearly surrounded by MAGHEROSS parish. Sending GIF image of the parish townlands map in separate post. I have just found that my John Bailey had the middle name of Cage ,sp?. Any hints as to what nationality Cage is. I've always been told that it is Irish by the family, now I'm not sure. Yours In Friendship, Deanne
Thanks to everyone for the help. I am a member of Ancestry.com,have looked in the Familysearch, and cyndis list. We have very little to go on except that from a census,John must have been born around 1835 It states he was born in New York, but the family seems to have heard he came here when he was 3. I dont have much, the family seems to think that perhaps Thomas was illiterate. We dont even know where in Ireland they came from. With this choice of names, how do I know if I have the right one.I was hoping that someone may have access to some info I could use. Also, is Joanna a common name for daughters around the mid 1800's. Yours in Friendship, Deanne
I am researching my family tree. My Father died recently and I am doing this in his honor. I have a Thomas whose wife I think may be Catherine. The children's names are John,Joanna, and Patrick. I know they came into New York, do not have a exit area. I am checking here because I have found that most of the Bailey's came from Northern Ireland. I know that this is not much to go on, but I dont have much. I was told they were good people, but they were very quiet. They have been known to have a very keen sense of humor,to the point of which you don't know if you have been complemented or cut. If anyone can help,it would be a godsend,as my Fathers sisters and I are trying to get this before it is too late.Yours In Friendship,Deanne
Which Monaghan Presbyterian Church? jean
Try the Valuation Records. You can locate the films in the Family History Library Catalog which is online now. Keep in mind that Glasslough is very close to Armagh. jean
