    3. I'm afraid I can't help with Pues, but am very interested in your Elizabeth Peacock. The surname was very rare, so I expect there would be some connection between yours, and my Sarah Peacock who married Joseph McKee ca. 1816. I know nothing of her family, but as she settled to live in Muckno Parish, I imagine she came from close by. I have found two Peacocks in Clontibret Parish - William and James, both farm laborers. Do you anything more about your Peacocks? If not, I would appreciate your keeping my email on file, so that if you ever come across Peacock info you could leet me know. Thanks, Joan GFahrnl928@aol.com wrote: > Hi to everyone > > I seeking information on the following from South Monaghan area. > > Gail > Brampton ON > > ROBERT JAMES PUE > B. 1806 S. 3. Hello there: I would like to obtain a church record of birth for my ancestor - Henrietta Lindsay JOHNSTON, Dau. of Walter Porter JOHNSTON. She would have born between 1845 and 1850. Mother's maiden could have been LINDSAY. The 1911 census just born in Co. Monaghan. I believe she had a brother called Edwin Wyndham JOHNSTON. Would like to contact Monaghan Ancestry, if there is such a place, to locate this record as I do not believe I have enough information to find this from Canada. If you know of such a place could you please email me an address or an email address. Also, if anyone has had any dealings with them I would appreciate hearing from you with regard to price and if the service was good. Thank you. Lorraine Vancouver, Canada

    2. Jenny Nancarrow
    3. Dear Listers, I am looking for any information on the above couple's parents. They lived in Monaghan (though Edward was born in Tyrone, Sarah in Monaghan) and their first child (William John) was born on 31 December, 1855, and baptised on 3 February 1856 in the Parish of Monaghan. They were protestants and Edward was a carpenter. They must have left for England almost immediately following the baptism, as they arrived in Australia at Moreton Bay (Queensland) on the 'Persia' on 20 June 1856. Their ages at sailing were 21 and 19. Any information would be greatly received and appreciated. They are my gg grandparents. Regards, Jenny Nancarrow in Sydney Australia

    3. Oh boy, are you in trubble! Marron and Duffy are two VERY common names in the Carrickimacross area (Magheross Parish) I'm pretty sure that's the case in most of the county. Have you obtained all the vital statistics that are available? What part of Co. Monaghan was their home? The church records should be searched if you haven't already done so. St. Joseph's (in Carrick) records have been filmed. LDS film #0956055 I've no idea what you've done or haven't done. If you've contacted Theo. McMahon in Monaghan Town, you probably have all the info that's available. He's a good 'pointer'. Can tell you where all the records and info can be found. jean

    1. Smiths of Smithborough
    2. T.S.McGurn
    3. Hello Monaghan List: I am related to SMITH of Smithborough but don't know how to best go about finding their trail. I am going over in May and would like to have some suggestions as to where to search. Family lore has it that: John SMITH married Ann CARROLL. They had nine children, John was a miller. ( One of the sons married Ann MACPHILLIPS , whose mother was a MCCABE.) My GG Grandmother was one of the daughters - Mary Ann SMITH who came over at age 10 (about 1850 to1860,- my estimate) her mother having passed on when Mary Ann was only 6 months old. Mary Ann lived with a brother in the Cincinnati area , was educated at Notre Dame in Cincinnati, and at age 18 married John GRAHAM who had come over about 1865. One of their 10 children was my grandmother Mary Florence GRAHAM. Maybe some of these names will ring with the many Monaghan Clans out there? If so, please drop me a line ~ or send me some clues for researching Smithborough. Many Many thanks to all. Tom McGurn

Births and marriages for it are found on the LDS Family History Library microfilm 1279329 (available through your nearest LDS Family History Center). The birth records go through 1984 and the marriages through 1970. Ballybay is a civil parish situated a little south of dead-center in Co. Monaghan and is in the barony of Cremorne. It contains the town of Ballybay as well. Incidentally, there is a St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Carrickmacross, Magheracloone civil parish. Could this be the "Kelly's Cross" referred to, with the name blurred over the years? Sally M.

Kelly's Cross - I find no mention of this as a Townland or Parish, although it may be a locally known name for a 'crossroads'. Emyvale - there are two listings for this placename: 1. Emyvale, a townland [also known as Scarnageeragh] in the Parish of Donagh, Barony of Trough, Co. Monaghan. It is 119 acres, 2 roods and 4 perches in size. 2. Tedavnet is a very small townland consisting of only 46 acres, 3 roods and 11 perches. There is a Barony spelled Trough in Co. Monaghan, and it adjoins the Barony of Monaghan. I would expect Tednavnet to be somewhere near the border of the Parishes of Tedavnet and Monaghan. Wish I had a Parish map to be sure. County Monaghan has the following old church records listed for Tedavnet Parish: Church of Ireland: Tydavnet [1832] Mullaghfad [1836 Roman Catholic: Tydavnet [1825] Presbyterian: Scotstown [1855] Hope this is of some help. Patricia ----- Original Message ----- From: AChapman <chapman@chits.mv.com> To: <IRL-MONAGHAN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, September 08, 1999 12:51 PM Subject: [IRL-MONAGHAN] CLARKIN/CLERKIN and CONNOLLY To the members of the Monaghan list I am looking for information on Michael CLARKIN (born in the late 1700's) of Tydavnet (Barony of Traugh?) County Monaghan. It is my understanding that he left Ireland as an adult with a family some time before 1845. He was married to Ellen CONNOLLY and they were the parents of Patrick, Bridget, Rose and James all born in Tydavnet(there may be others). Patrick was born around 1814 and died in Prince Edward Island (Lot 65, Emyvale), on July 26,1859 at the age of 45. Patrick CLARKIN married Catherine COADY of PEI some time around 1845. Patrick and Catherine had six children one of whom was a daughter Mary (whose name on the church record is spelled CLERKIN) married "Irish" Hugh CAMPBELL at St Joseph's in Kelly's Cross in PEI in 1874. Mary CLERKIN and Hugh CAMPBELL are my great grandparents. I would like info on Michael and Patrick CLARKIN and Ellen CONNOLLY. All I have on Ellen CONNOLLY is that she married Michael CLARKIN in the early 1800's and very likely in Tydavnet. It would also be helpful someone could verify a piece of "history". I have been told that Kelly's Cross and Emyvale in PEI were named for the home towns of the people who came to PEI from County Monaghan. The story also says that the parish priest in Kelly's Cross at St Joseph's Church help arrange and pay for the passage of parishioners to leave Ireland for new homes in PEI. Is there an Emyvale and a Kelly's Cross in County Monaghan and if so can you give me a clue as to where they are? Any help you can provide related to this request will be very well received and if there is any information I might provide from New Hampshire, USA I am more than willing to do so. 3. Hello, List: I am seeking information on the parents and (hopefully) grandparents of Simon MARRON, born ca 1826. Information I received from the Clogher Historical Society in County Monaghan indicate that Simon's father's name was Owen (b. ca 1787, d. 18 Feb 1870) and his mother's name was most likely Rose (b. ca 1784, d. 20 Mar 1879). Simon may have had a brother Francis, and I am interested in verifying if this is so, as well as finding any other of his siblings. I am also seeking inforation on the parents of Simon's wife Ann DUFFY. All I know is her father's name was James and they were from Coolderry. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
