    3. I've been looking for JOHN GIBSON who left Fermanagh area for Canada in 1844-48. I have never been able to find him. What is this magic Shirley Immigration papers you mention, would you please look and see if he could be on the list. What about BEATTY GRAHAM and wife JANE MC SHAY immigrated to NY about 1820s sometime from Monaghan, he too is impossible to find over there. Would be extremely grateful for any help. I'm slowly falling apart and am now writing my family history so that I have proof of what stories I have told my family for so many years. Evelyn in Oceanside, San Diego Co, CA. 2. sardine
    3. James Ryan's "Irish Records: Sources for Family and Local History" is an excellent reference, published in 1997. It is a major expansion of an earlier book of Ryan's, and was published in both the US and Ireland. It contains in its 668 pages separate chapters for each Irish county, with lists of records of various religious faiths, including available dates, and other material, as well as general Irish research advice and details. In the US, it was published by Ancestry, Inc., and is rather expensive but well worth it. In the US, most major libraries with genealogy collections and genealogical societies with libraries probably will have it in their collections. It can be purchased through a number of US on-line sources and also some genealogical societies with books for sale also carry it. In Ireland, it was published by The Flyleaf Press in Dublin, which apparently is the sole source there. In other countries, try genealogical book sources/libraries/etc.

    3. I have been writing to anyone doing any look- ups, my gg grandparents came to N/B Canada from Ireland in 1847, that is all I know, Philip and Ellen Mc Govern and there 6 children. I am looking for anyone finding the name on anything, would be most helpful. I think they came from a pumpkin patch because I can find out NOTHING on them. I sent $65.00 to a lady on line (won't mention name ) but all she did is get me copies of information I already sent to her. I am not happy with that....But if you can find me any new information I would be most happy to pay for it. Thank you. 1. [MONAGHAN~] DUFFY RESEARCH
    2. Philip Zubler
    3. I am looking for any information on my GG Grandfather. He lived in County Monaghan and his last name was DUFFY which is a common name there. His first name is unknown. More than likely he was born around 1800. He had one child, a son, Philip DUFFY, born in County Monaghan about 1824/25. They moved to Eastern Canada around 1826/27 and in the 1840's moved to upper New York State, around Lansingburg. He was a cousin to Sir Charles Gavan DUFFY of Monaghan. The "Cousin" may be clan related and not truly a close kin. Research by an aunt suggests his name might be Francis Duffy but is without certainty. Perhaps someone can help or point me in the right direction. My aunt, and now myself, have been stumpted on the origins of our TODD line after nearly 50 years of research. Her research identified John TODD as my gg grandfather in Ormstown Quebec. I found a history book about the county in Quebec which revealed that John TODD came from Monaghan Ireland, probably in 1817. His wife was Jane LAMB. She may also have been from Monaghan. Do you show either John TODD or Jane LAMB in the Ballybay Presbyterian community? The time frame would have likely been 1790-1817, assuming she traveled with him to Canada. Thanks again. -- Bill Weiland Ireland: TODD, LAMB, SADLER, THORNTON, LEGGET

    2. sardine
    3. Can't find anything on the current Michelin map that comes close to "Raw Deer Park." The only parks on the Monaghan-Cavan border indicated are Bellmont Forest, right on the border between Cootehill/Muinchille, Cavan, and Aghanamullen, Mongahan, and Dun A Ri Forest Park, where Cos. Monaghan, Cavan and Meath meet. This name could well be a handed-down (and much worked over) version of an Irish name for one of the "Big Houses" -- where the lord of the manor, etc., lived "back then."

    2. No, Jim, no Gillis listing in index, but I say again that the index is EXTREMELY incomplete. There are numerous names in the text that do not appear in the index. I don't recall seeing the name in the text, but I am only about halfway through the book. Anita

    2. The date is 1764, Faith. Since he was a member of Cahan's congregation, you might be able to get records for his children. I had Theo McMahon of the Monaghan Ancestry Center do a search of the records for me for 25 pounds. Good luck! Anita

    1. Re: [MONAGHAN~] Clones Church Records
    2. Patricia & Richard, Thank you for the words of wisdom. You've sold me - the LDS film is for the old church of Ireland. Sue Marcus In a message dated 7/29/00 9:59:47 AM Eastern Daylight Time, PKostelnik@ij.net writes: << Richard, you are correct about the names and about the desertion of the Protestants from the area for a few years, which did cause a break in the church records. I also recognized them as English/Scots names. I just looked in a good source, "Irish Records, Sources for Family and Local History" by James G. Ryan, Ph.D. On page 375 under Church of Ireland Records: Parish: Clones Existing Records: b. 1682; m. 1682; d. 1682 On page 377 under Roman Catholic Records: Civil Parish: Clones RC Parish: Clones Earliest Record: b. July, 1848; m. May 1821 Missing Dates: b. April, 1854-Apr, 1855; m. March 1840-Oct, 1840. This would indicate that the Clones Church Records found on LDS Microfilm No. 0897416 are indeed the very old Church of Ireland records of Clones Parish.
