This is the Tithe Applotment List for Aughaloughan, LDS Microfilm #0256597, Donagh Parish, Diocese of Clogher, County Monaghan. A previous question regarded "Denominations." This has to do with land. The four columns for each town/townland are divided into 1) Acreable Rate; 2) Area of Each Farm; 3) Yearly Rectorial Tithe and 4) Yearly Vicarial Tithe. (The print on those is small, even though I put it on "Zoom" on the reader/printer, so if any corrections, please let me know.) The time period is 1826. AUGHALOUGHAN Anne CARGILL Saml. Hello everyone, I'm a new list member researching the surname DUFFY. I know there were many Duffy families but if anyone has a Patrick Duffy (born c. 1840) who married an Agnes Burns (born c. 1841) in their records I would love to hear from you. Three children were born in Co. Monaghan (Mary c.1860, James c. 1862, John c. 1864) before the family left Ireland to settle in N.E. England. Any help would be most welcome. Regards Margaret
Researching Duffy/Carroll Thomas Duffy b. abt. 1820 m. Mary Carroll b. abt. 1820 daughter of Michael and Mary Carroll in Monaghan in the early 1840s. The emigrated to America in 1843 or 1844 and ended up in Pawtucket RI by 1847 or earlier. They had nine children. The first Owen born in Ireland or "on the high sea". The rest born in Pawtucket which at the time was North Providence. They belonged to St. Mary's and lived on George St. In addition to Owen 3 other sons lived to adulthood John, Michael and Francis. I believe at least one sister Bridget Carroll and a brother James also emigrated to the area. Anne -- ****** Anne Duffy mailto:rid22576@ride.ri.net

We were in Emyvale last summer and Seamus McCluskey gave us a tour of the Emyvale Area and gave us a certificate proclaiming us Honorary Citizens of Emyvale. He is secretary of the Emyvale Development Association. I once had his address but can't seem to find it, but I'm sure he could be reached by writing to the" Emyvale Development Association", Emyvale, County Monaghan, Ireland. Wayne
This is an update of my previous post on this search... Looking for information on Keirnan or Kiernan family from County Monaghan (maybe County Femanagh or County Cavan)... My great-grandfather, John Swanzy Kiernan, left Ireland for Canada in 1860 from the Glasslough area Coolcollid townland of Donagh parish (Monaghan). He had lived in Naghill townland of Drumsnat parish (Monaghan) earlier. He was a farmer and a teacher... He was Church of Ireland . Also looking for Swanzy and Malcolm from Monaghan (and maybe Fermanagh or Cavan)... John Swanzy Kiernan (or Keirnan)(born in 1812) -- Married Mary Malcolm (or Meaclem or something close)(born in 1815) in Naghill Townland of Drumsnat Parish in 1834... It is possible (likely) that his mother's maiden name was Swanzy (maybe Mary Swanzy ???) Lots of Swanzy's in Ballagh, Blackraw, Skervan, Skeagh and Naghill townlands of Drumsnat parish (Monaghan) and Collatty and Mullabrack townlands of Clones parish (Monaghan) --- Trying to connect the Kiernans (Keirnans), Swanzys and Meaclems (Malcolms) Thanks Dick Kiernan
On the subject of where to buy maps of Ireland and Northern Ireland.... Go to this site and you will find a great selection of Irish maps... to include the 1901 maps of all counties... enjoy... Dick Kiernan http://www.omnimap.com/catalog/index.htm

Hi Donna, (a) gives the name of the teacher or teachers. (b) is the cost of education for a year - or given as so much for a quarter in some instances (c) gives the numbers of children attending the school by religion. The first number is that given by the Church of Ireland as being the official number of children of that religion in the school and then the figure in brackets is the number of children of that religion as recorded by the Catholics. then (d) gives some information on the school house itself - whether a cabin or a decent house - whatever. In some instances there is a bit more on people who give donations or support each school. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Donna E. Both of the above townlands are near Emyvale, the latter tucked right up and south, the former a bit further south and tucked up to Drummully - near a Presby Meeting House (1837) . . . and CoI in Carrigans. Denominations would be religious persuasion. HTH.... Ann
