    1. New Irish Web Site
    2. Jane Lyons
    3. From Ireland www.from-ireland.net with approximately 1000 names and references to people from the following counties: Carlow Cavan Laois Monaghan Each of those pages has approximately 1000 references - surname, name and date to people from Irish mansucript sources - gravestones, marriage licence bonds, admin bonds being some of the ones I have used. While it is my intention to have the complete reference to each of my sources at the top of each name page, currently I am missing some bits of some of tehm - the year of publication or the volume or some such. This will be corrected over the next week. The Laois pages contain full transcriptions - this is my own material. If you want to look at the names for any page on this web site then go to the 'Indices' page - that will lead you straight through to lists of names for any county on the site. It is intended to create similar pages for each fo the remaining 28 counties - it's not the numbers of names that are my problem it's the time taken to create each page. once all 32 counties are up - hopefully within two weeks (Kilkenny and maybe Offaly will go up tomorrow) then every two months approximately anothe r1000 references will be added to each of these pages. Jane :-)

    3. 1. Samuel Swanzy from Tullybcorbet
    2. Dick and Mary Kiernan
    3. In my search for my ancestors, I have placed the man who I think is my ggg grandfather (the grandfather of John Swanzy Kiernan/Keirnan) in Tullycorbet Parish in 1775. Samuel Swanzy was a lawyer and I found him shown as a witness for a will and he was listed as being from Tullycorbet parish. In his published marriage write-up, he is listed as being from County Armagh. In another document, he is listed as Samuel Swanzy from Swanville ??? Is Swanville in Tullycorbet ??? Somewhere else in County Monaghan ??? In County Armagh. I can't find Swanville... Thanks, Dick Kiernan

    3. To: William F Broderick >From : Colin Ferguson Jane Lyons was kind enough to post your message on the Monaghan mailing list. I was indeed sad to learn of your father's death and even shocked for I had spoken with him only three weeks ago. By EMAIL I had offered him a suggestion for his site and a minor correction regarding a Townland in County Cork. He took the trouble to look for my name in the phone book and give me a call. We spoke for 15 to 20 minutes and I thoroughly enjoyed that phone call. His passion for the project was clear and I could tell that he was a "stickler" for accuracy much like myself. I have used his site at least once a week for the past year and very much appreciate its value. I can imagine that this is just one example of probably hundreds if not thousands of similiar phone calls that he must have made. That community at large has lost not only a valuable researcher but a man who helped make life that much more enjoyable.

    1. Jane Lyons deserves better
    2. I'm so sorry to discover that folks have reacted to Jane's request with suspicion and accusations...Anyone on this list, in particular, must be familiar with the extensive research she has done and generously posted where we can all access it and have no doubt benefited from her occasional personal responses. I know I have. It hardly seems appropriate to dignify such undeserving negativism with a reply, or to have to defend a researcher who has so selflessly devoted time and effort in compiling data for the benefit of the Irish genealogy community at large, but I am obliged to speak out on her behalf and thank her for all the good she has done and would like to do if those who have the information she seeks would only help HER for a change. Thank you, Jane. Beth Callanan Washington, DC

    1. Fw: John Maurice Broderick Sr. aka "seanruad" has passed on ...
    2. Jane Lyons
    3. I am forwarding this mail to these lists because William asks if those who appreciated the work his father did could find the time to contact him and his family and that this would help them in their loss. SeanRuad as most knew him, set his mind to creating the IrlAtlas - the place where anyone searching for any townland in Ireland will visit. He was not an old man by any manner or means. What he created and gave to researchers free of charge, is, I imagine, oe of the most popular web sites relating to irish research. The address in case there is anyone who would like to send a Mass Card or letters/notes of condolences is this: 1424 Massachusetts Ave. Arlington, MA 02476 USA# I hope that those of you who have ever visited his web site www.seanruad.com will say something to his family. For those of you who have never lost a parent - what is received from people after that death means a lot. 1. Lists of names and graveyards
    2. Jane Lyons
    3. I would like to ask people who have contacted me or who are suspicious of my query re gravestone transcriptions to take a look at this web page. While it is titled graveyard and for the most part does deal with a graveyard, it is more about what I do and what lists can tell me - and so therefore you - about surnames and placenames. The county that this page deals with is irrelevant, what I say or show here is exactly the same for any county in Ireland - I could have taken any one and done the same thing. This is not my web site and when that is finished then I will give the URL. Jane http://uk.geocities.com/lyonsjane/graveyard.htm

    1. New to list
    2. Michael Hammell
    3. Hello Listers, I'm looking for "Hammell", circa 1800 - 1835, specifically, but prior to that would be interesting also. My ancester Henry Hammell and wife Isabella Shaw sailed to Canada in 1835. Henry died on board, Isabella remarried a fellow passenger, Roderick Graham whom she met on the passage over. Henry & Isabella's son, George (b. 1832 in Ireland, d. 1922 in Canada) was my great grandfather and we have traced forward from George to present. Family legend suggests County Cavan however haven't found much there yet. Thought I might look around some other counties due to the apparent easy movement of families back then. Suspect strongly, that the folks were protestant, from family history, primarily english firstnames through family, ie, Arthur, Edward, John, Robert, George, etc. They were farmers in Canada, I assume the same in Ireland. A bit of a surprise, as my side of the family don't seem to me to have a strong "farming aptitude". Perhaps that's just my narrow perspective. Any traces would be appreciated... even a confirmation they weren't there is good. Mike Hammell

If any person does have some transcriptions and has never read any post of mine to any rootsweb mailing list, I will answer any questions you may have and show you something...............
