I'm seeking the impossible! My immigrant ancestor, JOSEPH MC MAHON, born 1828, was "from Monaghan" and that's all I know. We do not have a father's name nor the name of any other family member. He arrived in Philadelphia in 1847, became a tailor, married SARAH ANN LEWIS, a seamstress, and had six children: Mary, Sylvester, John, Joseph, James Paul, and Maurice. Almost all the family has remained in Philadelphia, and a few of us are in California. We descendants of Joseph, James Paul, and Maurice are doing well with our U.S. research but would welcome connections with descendants of Mary and Sylvester. John died unmarried. Thanks! Ann

Hello, I have just started researching my family. I know that my Great great Grandfather Patrick MURPHY was born in 1827(according to an article about his son). He lived in Inniskeen, Co. Monaghan. He married a Mary WOODS. They had 5 sons that I know of, all of which moved to PA, US around the 1880's. Their names were: Owen, Edward(my Great Grandfather), Michael, James and Thomas. There may be another son who stayed in Ireland. They also had a daughter that stayed in Ireland named Anne who married. I am trying to find out more about where Patrick and Mary lived, their parents names and if I have relatives still living in that area of the world. Shelly M. Niehart

Hi all I am trying to trace descendants/relatives still living in Ireland of Moses CHERRY, born c 1775 in Ballybay, son of John CHERRY and Catherine Mc COY. Moses migrated to Australia in the mid 1850s and died at Benalla, Victoria at age 104! Also Moses' wife, Margaret GAWLEY, born c. 1795 in Aghnamullen, daughter of James GAWLEY and Margaret HENDERSON. Margaret also died at Benalla - at age 79. It is possible that GAWLEY may be a variant of GOURLAY and there is an element of doubt re Moses' actual birthplace. One researcher has suggested that he may actually have been born in Armagh, although his death certificate definitely shows Ballybay. I would also be interested in locating the marriage record for Moses and Margaret and birth/baptism records for their children, Joseph, George Gawley (c. 1826), Susan Jane (c. 1828), John (c. 1830), Ellen, Jane. Estimated dates of birth are calculated from stated age at death as recorded on dearth certificates issued in Victoria. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
