Hi, I am still looking for the Kells family. Haven't had any mail lately so checking things out. Flo
I am seeking information on my Great Grandmother, Bridget Cassidy. She was transported to Van Diemens Land in 1849 and her convict records indicate she was 18 years old at the time and her fathers name was John. She was tried on 5 March 1849 at Monaghan and her native place was recorded as Co Monaghan. She was received at Grangegorman Depot for transportation on 14 Apr 1849 A search of the National Archives indexes shows the spelling of the name as Cassidey. A list of previous conviction indicate she lived for some time in Monaghan. Would appreciate any advice on where I could possibly find further information on Bridget TIA Bob Millman Strathpine Qld Australia _____ avast! Hi all.... Someone asked me to check the "US passport" site for the name...Mullin/Mullen/Mullan from 1820s -1850s. I have posted these to them but also thought others "may be" interested. These were people who immigrated to US and then applied for a passport to either visit back home or other places outside US. In the area where they put "where born" it stated "Ireland". Which could be anywhere in Ireland. Not to mis lead....there are others with more specific areas....like Donegal. Tyrone, Monaghan and Fermanagh. But I thought since I had looked "these" up I would post them. IF some name looks like a possible connection for you....please email me "off-list" and I can look further into it. Just know..older passports have less info with them where as newer ones have alot....even pictures of the person applying. I am very busy right now....BUT since I have already looked into these names I thought I would post them. In the long run....maybe for the "original" person I looked up for...if luck is with us ...maybe they'll find a connection with you! Wouldn't that be great! Ahhh .....we can ALL hope! Here they are: Francis B Mullin b 14 Apr 1861 James Mullin b 15 Apr 1837 John F Mullin b 1825 Joseph Mullin b 2 Feb 1886 Joseph Mullin b 6 Aug 1811 Katie Mullin b 9 Oct 1881 Rose Mullin b 9 Jun 1894 Susanna Mullin b 24 Mar 1883 Edmund Mullan b 8 Mar 1884 (Belfast) Joseph Neal Mullan b 22 Nov 1879 (Belfast) Sarah Jane Mullan b 30 Nov 1887 Andrew Mullen b 4 Oct 1832 Bridget Mullen b 2 Feb 1867 Hugh Mullen b 17 Mar 1835 Hugh Mullen b 9 Jul 1874 (Londonderry) Jennie Mullen b 4 Mar 1889 John M Mullen b 8 Mar 1832 Mary Mullen b 1860 Thomas Mullen b 22 Jul 1839 Sue in NY **************It's Tax Time! Hi, Sharon: The seanruad site shows a Ballynahone in Errigal Trough. Diane
Found the following in Griffiths Valuation c 1858-60 in Monaghan Stoop, Samuel County : Monaghan Parish : Muckno Location : Mullyash Stoops, Alexander County : Monaghan Parish : Muckno Location : Alsmeed Stoops, James County : Monaghan Parish : Muckno Location : Drumacrib Stoops, Samuel County : Monaghan Parish : Muckno Location : Alsmeed Most families stayed in the same area unless they emigrated. Does anyone know of a townland named Ballynahone in Co. Monaghan? I am chasing down the following: Alexander PRINGLE of Ballinahone, Co. Monaghan whose will was proved in 1719/20. SOURCE: T.G.F. Patterson's Notes & Family Charts Relating to Grand Juries gives the family relationships of names mentioned in this deed. I wonder if I may have made a transcription error. There is a Ballynahone in Co. Tyrone as well as Ballynahone Beg and Ballynahone More both in Co. Armagh (as well as less likely candidates in Derry). Thank you! I am looking for any information about the surname STOOPS in Alsmeed, Monaghan. My 4th Great-Grandfather William Stoops was born about 1792 in Alsmeed. He joined the 26th regiment of Foot in 1812. He married Janet Grieve Nov. 11, 1841 in Edinburgh. He was discharged Sept 10, 1833. He died before 1841 ( Janet was a widow in the 1841 census). Also Joining the 26th regiment of Foot at the same time as William was a Richard Stoops. He was born abt 1790 in Alsmeed. I am guessing they were brothers. He married Isabella Swan in 1817 in Edinburgh. He also died before 1841 because Isabella was also a widow in the 1841 census. Any information about the STOOPS living near or around Alsmeed would be greatly appreciated. April
I don't see Carrintrough in the townland atlas, but there is a Corrintra in Muckno civil parish. Do you know their religion so you can look for church records? Diane

Hi All, After touting these sites to many people requesting the Monaghan Story Index, I thought I would remind people of these great resources, especially while the newspaper site is still free to use. I cannot stress enough how much can be gained.. Information and articles from 1800 to 1900.... The first site is here http://access.gale.com/gdctrial/ All you need to do is register and it costs nothing. When registering, for institution put none and also put none for phone. Make sure to give your proper email address as they will send you login details and password. If you do a basic search it¹s best to only use one keyword but if you get too many hits try doing an advanced search using 2 keywords in separate boxes and change the options from Keyword(ke) to entire document(tx)¹ in the dropdown menus, then type one word in each box. Try variations of spellings too if you can¹t find anything. There are a number of collections but be sure to check out the 19th Century British newspapers and the 19th Century US Newspapers, which have tons of Irish news. Another site is this site http://www.eppi.ac.uk/eppi/digbib/home Some great parliamentary papers on here. Claire McConville

Hi All, I¹m sending this to both lists as Monaghan borders County Fermanagh so there may be people researching border families. I¹ve made a database of the Name Index from the book The Monaghan Story¹, by Peadar Livingstone. This will, I hope, compliment the great work done by Vynette Sage in the name index for The Fermanagh Story¹ by the same author. Anyone wanting this database, in Excel format, can email me directly at [email protected] and I will send it to you. Please let me know it¹s the Index for The Monaghan Story as I have a few indexes now. Claire McConville
Edward McTavey, b. Co. Monaghan but village not known b. probably between 1790-1800 I have not yet learned the time of his immigration, but he was in Herkimer Co., NY by 1823 which is probably the year that he married Wife is Sarah Root, born in Canaan, Litchfield Co., Conn., the dau. of Elijah Root and Sarah Barnes. Sarah m. (1) Eli Newell, War of 1812 Veteran who died in 1818 I didn't have much time to research at Clones Library in Co. Monaghan two weeks ago. I think it possible that Edward was born in Castleblayney, but that is only a guess. I spoke with Brendan and Sean Tavey in C. blayney. Their grandfather took the Mc from his name. Are there any other McTaveys/Taveys out there from Co. Monaghan? Deanna

I would expect that Washington, DC would have a LDS or Mormon Library Centre where you could look at the film yourself See the www.familysearch.org , then click library, then click Family History Library catalogue, and then place and type in Clones, and then Ireland, Monaghan, Clones, and you will see what is available for a number of titles for Clones. When one lives a long way from a place of interest the LDS centres are a Godsend for seeing films of the records needing to be searched.. HTH Regards, Lyn Brown in Griffith
HI; If anyone out there can help Rob I would appreciate any records or access to them as well. My Campbells-Patons came from there about 1825. have a good day Marietta Parisien Sarnia On
